Check out this demo of SCAMP doing a filter sweep over some strings. This is going from about 100hz to 22000hz and back, with resonance at about 30 percent. I didn't use the built in LFO to modulate the filter as it was too short to do it (hopefully that will be fixed)

Sure you can use it. Just make sure to credit the author ;)

Its a string sample from FL, with a lil special stuff added

this thing has the best GUI I ever seen on a VST Plug-In. I wish every vst would look like this....

the knobs are easy to move and the look is state of the art.

I will check out the sound soon.

yeah, mr. admiral you must def. be one of the best gui designers on earth :)
this adds to the sound

i will give scamp a good testing asap!!

Hi AdmiralQuality

Can you do us all a huge favour and turn off all but the first 1 or 2 channels by default... having all 6 channels on absolutely kills my computer, even when it's the only plugin used! and my laptop is only 1 yr old...

PS All presets in the demo should really only use 1 or 2 channels IMO

Post

does it use less juics than NaiveLPF.......sounds really great but gobbles the cycles :(

Post

Yep, it's an acknowledged processor pig... with the same sound algo used in Naive LPF. We know it takes a lot of power, but it was an intentional trade-off to get that authentic sound.

Note that SCAMP has an ECONO mode that halves the internal oversampling rate. Also, you may have had trouble with Naive running on 6 channels when you though you were only processing 2.

Both products support a NUMCHANNELS setting in the their ini files that limits the maximum number of channels they will attempt to connect to. In addition, SCAMP has bypass buttons so you can interactively select and deselect channels for processing. Before giving up, make sure you're actually only processing 2 channels (bypass 3, 4, 5, and 6). Then try ECONO mode -- if you're not using lots of resonance at higher cutoff frequencies ECONO sounds quite acceptable.

scam_artist: If you never use the additional channels, set NUMCHANNELS to 2 instead of 6 in the SCAMP.ini file and you'll have your default. If you're only using SCAMP for mono or stereo that will be fine. Also note that SCAMP doesn't waste processing power on unconnected channels (though some hosts connect more channels than is necessary) so the best way to make the presets work for the most applications was as all channels active. You can tell if a channel is connected by pressing it's bypass button. If it's not connected it'll read Chan x: No Connx in the parameter text read-out at the bottom. In the next minor rev I'll probably make unconnected channels bypass buttons pop-out to make that more apparent.

I want to thank everyone who's bought a copy already. Nobody's 7 day evaluation has expired yet so the fact that we're already seeing some sales is very encouraging! Thank-you!!! This is a great indicator and will mean more good things to come very soon!

Thanks for the advice on the "number of channels setting" Ill check it out, should bring down the overhead alot :D

Excellent sounding filter

On the demo the cpu isn't that bad on a higher powered cpu. My PIV at 2.8 ghz runs one instance with all six channels on and audio being processed @ about 15-20%. I'd probably have to bounce a few tracks, or process them offline in a practical production situation...but i'm willing to do things like that if it means I can get a bit closer to that analog sound. Great DSP needs power. ;)

Good to hear. Are you actually using it on surround tracks Totc??? We test for 6 channel so I know it works but, testing aside, I hardly ever use it for more than stereo.

So always very interested to hear from anyone who is doing surround work with this!

If you're just on a stereo track, then it's probably only running 2 channel (though it depends which host you use. They all negotiate connections in drastically different ways. C'est la VST.)

Hey AdmiralQuality,

I hope we will see other nice plug-ins soon....

you are what others claim to be....
