I always thought that Rhino looked more like a scientific tool than a musical instrument (and i dont know how many times ive told Big Tick that it needed work) so on wednesday i offered Tick my skills. I really hate doing skins because your creativity is so limited. Anyway I started work on the gui for Rhino yesterday and this is where its more or less at...

Its far from finished (still quite rough) but you get the idea. Unfortunately its unlikely that i will be able to go on and develop it further due to a new venture i might be joining in. Id rather use all my concepts and designs in my own vsti's than give them away. But i just thought i might as well let you see it anyway. If anything it gives you an idea of how i would like rhino to look and also something as a taster as to what my future vsti's might look like.

Hope you like it. Im open to suggestions. I havent yet decided for sure if i will or wont develop it further.

Please note that the design is copyright of 2d-sign.co.uk

It is definetly more "stylish" than the original which i was'nt very fond of.

But it is a bit dark. And i got the feeling i saw right thru it! Like it is'nt really there. A mirage!!

But i like it more and more even as type this.

So it is good, a bit dark but good.

I'll agree with the too dark ;my eyes are bad enough as is :( .I DO like the high-contrast envelopes, etc.though!Maybe a dark gray background instead of black?
Nice work,prophet!! :)

Prophet, it is a bit dark but I still like the look.

My main concern would be contrast. Currently it's hard to read text in the Rhino interface. As an example of what not to do consider Sampletank's current UI, red background with white text = readable, but when you go to a subdirectory it's red background with black text = hard to read for some.

I like the idea of a colorful design, perhaps some bevels for a 3D style.

Actually, I'ved looked at the UI you posted and the more I see it the more I like it. Please try and keep us text contrast folks in mind on your design.

yeah, i also noticed it was a little dark when i checked it on one of the displays at work. Thats not a problem tho, i can easily brighten it. Its just a matter of testing it out on various types of displays (as with any gui).

Too dark !!
" Cooler " red, less hot for my eyes ...
The effects on sliders are terrific though !! :)

Some suggestions to Big Tick before the weekend !

- The envelopes types could be disposed side by side instead of a menu ...

- More colored leds : ok, already one for osc is on but one for pitch envelope on and one for waveshaper ...

More next week with the version 1.0 ! :D

yes, nice work but a little too dark and the witing is not very clear.

Prophet, what is that little GUI that looks a bit like an AKAI Sampler under your postings ?
You have a bigger pic of that ?

I'm not familiar with the restrictions of skinning, but what strikes me the most is that UGLY font (strictly IMO of course :!: ). Some fonts are more legible (or was it readable, I always forget) then others, but both GUI's would benefit from a less blocky font.

I like this one better than the original, mainly because of the sliders.

That's nothing actually. Just some concept designs. Something i might develop more in the future.
