Velocity Layered Convo Verb

well wouldn't that be nice?
let's say you wanna model a spring reverb... just record several spring impulses from barely moving to vibrating so much they hit each other and/or the case
now your convo verb chooses which impulse to use depending on the input level of the sample....
could be quite a CPU hog but wouldn't it be cool?

I would find it an excellent tool, though I take it that with "velocity" you mean "input level".
I can imagine lots of fun uses, like big reverbs on loud snares, small rooms on quiet ones. Or indeed, trying stepped impulses from one's favourite compressor.
But couldn't we also achieve this with, say, a simple plug that splits the input into four outputs depending on input level, with the user able to set the three threshhold values.
We can then set an instance of SIR or ConvoBoy (or the plug of your choice) on each output.
This could also have other uses, using different eqs or distortions on different input levels.
Sounds like a job for the BetaBugs!!!
My compliments,
TheCaptain.

I thought about the same approach.CaptainMark wrote: But couldn't we also achieve this with, say, a simple plug that splits the input into four outputs depending on input level, with the user able to set the three threshhold values.

Just make a small utility to route audio to different tracks based on a threshold. Each output track would contain an instance of, say, Convo Boy. This way you could even have completey different IRs in each instance. A very flexible approach with no additional CPU overhead (compared to an integrated solution).
Sounds like it would be a nice freebie (BetaBugs) complement for Convo Boy.
I am currently planning other things with Convolution in mind.
Get to it BetaBugs!

I've asked help from a few developers to create a plugin like this, they all put me in standby mode:>.
I think your friend C.Budde nailed this multree, its called dynamic convolution but its patented so he had to drop it ? :>
Focusrite liquid channel used this tech, when i tried it i was amazed with its sound(quite expensive though).
Seems like Tritone's digital Colortone is using a similar algo, have not tried it though(probably the only plugin that does what you are looking for atm).
Would be nice to see such a tool as freeware with a large user database:> I can help if someone actually codes it (grab impulses from tons of gear):>
Take care

That's what I thought. BTW, The patent probably would not be relevant in case that a standard convolution plug-in is used with an independent amplitude dependent audio distributor plug-in. Each plug-in alone is not violating the patent, since they don't cover the complete functionality. Leave it to the user to use the combination in any manner they see fit. I don't see a problem with this.Villy wrote:I've asked help from a few developers to create a plugin like this, they all put me in standby mode:>.

seems like a good idea to me - but is this all dynamical convolution is about???
just put a convo verb and an amplitude sensible distributor together in one plug-in?

Yes, Space Boy, your suggestion is a solution in a way:>.
Though it would be time consuming to load 10 instances of Sir and 10 impulses in each one.
The worst part would be trying to configure the "playbility/switching" between impulses after you have captured your material. "beta-testing" the impulses hehe.
A developer friend is supposed to develop something that will do this, but he is busy building something else atm. We've talked about it for hours and it can happen without violating the "patent" in any way.
