Any quality differences between ESC vs Chicken Systems

I want to convert over my Sampletank 1 library and my Sonic Synth 1 library to GigaStudio 3. I've seen a lot of posts from people that have used Chicken Systems software and have had problems with it, yet Tascam has it on their site as the conversion utility of choice. There are also posts from people who have had no problems with it so it's hard to decide which way to fall on it. Does Extreme Sample Converter do just as good of a job? I guess what I'm asking is do I lose anything using one or the other. Does one do a better job than the other? Your input is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Ooooof... you have opened the "pandora's box" and, yarrrr, there be trolls and flamewars ahead...
Anyway, I bought ESC a while back because:
A) The demo worked well for me.
B) There are less formats than Chikensys translator, but they are the ones I actually use. (SFZ, SF2, Gigastudio, AKAI (S1000), etc.)
C) The author has always (imo) been friendly and responsive when I've had queries about the software.
D) The conversions of my AKAI CDs and soundfonts are, imo, just as they should sound.
However, I wish it was possible to change keyranges of samples within the editor. I originally thought this might be in ESC3, but it seems not.
I haven't used ChickenSys Translator, so I can't comment, either on the quality of the software of the support from the developers. But, as with the host wars, your best bet is to demo extensively and check that the workflow and functionality meets your requirements.
Also, I have, on occasion, accused a piece of software of being buggy when, in fact, it was something on my setup causing it. Read all criticism (and fanboy-ish endorsement!) of software with a pinch of salt and demo extensively.

IIRC, Translator will only convert TO Sampletank format, not from. Not sure about ESC though...anfmusic wrote:I want to convert over my Sampletank 1 library and my Sonic Synth 1 library to GigaStudio 3...
