Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum (have been on the site for ages, how stupid is that) and just wanted to inform everybody that I'm working on a Royalty Free Drumloop Library (wich I'm creating from scratch).

Most of the loops were created by triggering FXpansion's BFD (+8bitkit and XFL) with my Roland TD8-KV.

I'll release a new set of loops every month. They will be MP3 (320 kb/s) because of the limited webspace on my site.

You can check out february's finest at DRAINAGEMUSIC.NL.

And while you're there check out some music

Cheers,

Hans.

Well I should think so after paying like 750 euro's for the 3 series... The loops are unique, composed by me so... I don't think there's a problem. What else is the point in buying a sample library like that ?

Why not just upload the whole program then.

I mean, it's intended to use in a studio (rather than micing up a true kit). I will read the manual and see if it says I have to pay every time my stick hits the snare... would be weird though... wouldn't it be ?

if not it would mean you wouldn't own the full copyright to your own songs if you use BFD for them... :-o   - jeez, some people worry too much...

Yeah, that would be weird, but I'm pretty sure you paid a one time fee allowing you to use the samples in anything your studio releases.

I'm sure they sound great, but now that I'm learning mic techniques in school, I wouldn't use a program to make real sounding drums. I have BFD lite, and I wasn't really impressed by the sounds.
Have you seen that video comparing a real kit to a Roland Electronic kit, to BFD? http://www.sonicstate.com/articles/article.cfm?id=94It was pretty cool.
I would use a sequencer if I wanted electronic drums, possibly sent through a guitar cabinet, and miked with a combination of close and ambient techniques, which is exactly what NIN does often.

Do you have to pay for each note played with a preset of your Roland/Korg etc synth?!

No, but if I sat down with those presets and turned them into a multi-sampled library and tried to sell it, I'd be breaking the law.

This specific issue is an interesting one though, since in a very real sense, drum loops are mini performances. A full song that you sell is fine. A set of one-shot samples stolen from BFD is not. Loops are obviously somewhere in between, I just have no idea where. I'd like to hear the definitive answer on this, just to satisfy my curiousity.

What if I recorded some bassriffs on my bassguitar or make a soundfont of it and tried to sell them, would I be paying the paying the company who build my bassguitar?
(I'm not trying to be a smartarse, just also curious about how far this copyrightthing goes)

One simple answer - why not just ask FXpansion is its cool to give out the loops.

Thanks btw, they sounds sweet!

If you want to distribute samples – your best bet is to sample them yourself direct from the original instrument or ambience – or – really know for sure your license covers you to distribute samples derived from others – its not a place to take a guess.

I would take the link down and ask FXpansion as teeboy suggests – that way you will know for sure.

Here you go I will point you in the direction on where to get this clarified

Sample based products (including hardware ones) can have certain limits to what can and cannot be done with the sample content – clarify first then post is the best thing to do.
