Indeed. "sudo -s" will let you do that, and if you really want to be root, you can simply activate the root account.

I been using xnc, a windows commander style manager.

Make a launcher with gksu xnc and you can browse files, change attributes decompress files and generally screw it all up.

If sudo is too much for you, just use the root console.

not yet, but I'm sure the linux betas will be out at the same time as teh windows ones (or shortly after)

That's great Jorgen.

I already did mkfs.ext3 /dev/hda1.

I had enough of that crappola called for some reason an "os". Just today it made me so angry... Had been dealing with that "fantasy" for too many years now and when it's enough then it is enough.

I can not wait for Ext2!!!
