I've gotten really good results using chopper type plug-ins on non-drum things, like arpeggiated chords and vocals and pads and things.

I need to stop being on the internet, these past two days have been disgraceful.
really liked your tracks.
REALLY...
REALLY REALLY REALLY!!!11!! :hihi:

some of tweakbench's plugins lend themselves to this sort of thing, too, btw. with breakdown and automation/preset automation you can do some pretty cool things. :D

take 2 innocuous looking drum loops into orions sampler, chop into small chunks and rearrange as needed.to garnish try metal mickey on fx and if you have the function available send to a bus and add supatrigger(if you dont hav this function double the tracks and add the other fx there)
then assuming one has reaktor 5 lying around try recording some vectory and layering that with the above for some marvelous beat feast!!

I have seen a lot of people guessing what software they use, the most common ones are that aphex twin uses max msp with custom built effects and beat slicer tools and that squarepusher uses reaktor, in the reaktor library theres some cool beat slicing ensembles that will help with making beats like you want, oh and i have also seen people write that pusher uses a circuit bent 707 drum machine (modified) and probably other hardware effects.

Here's a little thing I did in FL using default samples and loops.. all FL effects too. It's more like Hive than Aphex Twin, in that it is sparse and minimal, but whatever.. I'm sure you'll get the idea.

the answer to "why did he do that?" is "because you touch yourself at night."

Great job man, sounds exactly like Venetian Snares. If I didn't know, I would have thought this was a Venetian Snares track.

Hard to believe you did it mostly using cut and paste though, do you mean you used some chopper/beat slicing/rearranging plugins/patches, then just cut little snippets you liked and rearranging them? I do that a lot, I have the plugins or patches do a bunch of processing that I automate, then I render the audio and chop it up a bunch. I also almost exclusively use audio files.

Do I have to sign up for myspace to see tracks? Went to the page, don't see anything for me to listen to... :(

Oops, nm, I see, I need flash or whatever running... :P

enviso - nice beats man! How about posting a screenshot from ACID during a frantic beat section? Would be interesting to see...

Cool! Care to share the Kit and the file so we can take a look?
Indeed ! This just sounds wicked !
<Rapture> Tsk, it's [new processors] as bad as penis comparisons, really.
<rejs> but penises don't double in performance every 18 months...

me too. a combination of Fruity Slicer , Granulizer and wave traveller plus velocity and filter controls. it's not easy anyway and need huge work and patience

yeah, I just really figured out that wave traveller is good for this stuff too - I was always just using slicer...

Sorry for having to say this guys, but it'll always be the most important thing to avoid to much "randomness". Twist your shit manually...programm or fuckin' render it the way YOU WANT IT to be...
Somebody out there will always be advanced enough to tell, if you put some effort in your work or if you just had a couple of loops thrown in some "Destroyalizer".... ;-)
Check out a piece of my work to figure what I mean....

Can anyone recommend any beat slicer/chopper tool(s)?
I just recently delved into the FL slicer and was considering purchasing the Zero-X product but wasn't sure if there were alternatives; sounds like there are.....????
Ideas are bulletproof... I am not.

You should check out my slicer / arranger VSTi LiveSlice. It's very good at layering loops and creating very complex arrangements. The price is very reasonable too.

Unlike all the glitch plugins you have full control over everything - and still you can work fast and impulsively using the randomize features and the parameter envelopes.

Remember: you don't have to use breakbeats as a source - any wave file will do. The attack-hold-release parameters allow you full control of the amplitude envelope of each slice. The 8 outputs can be routed to independent fx / filters.

here's a link to one of the more complex demo mp3's, created by KVR user R.A.W. - beleive me you can go way beyond this in complexity - you can have 32 tracks and each can be randomized, chopped and tuned.

For a quick intro check the flash demos

hehe, i was gonna suggest liveslice, too. great for recording and slicing live audio on the fly, too. 8)
