i want to move knobs and bars on a synth with out doing it manually. i want to move them at a certain speed at certain time. Is there a program that does this? or do i have to re program it in a complicated manner. most hosts will let you automate the mixer that the host has, i want to automate an instrument or an effect that is not apart of the host. any suggestions?

any host with VST automation can accomplish this.
I use Cubase SX, which does it.
I'm pretty sure FL Studio does it too.
I'm sure most of the others can as well.

or if your host doesn't have VST automation, but can record midi, you can do midi automation of most vst instruments and effects instead, and get the same result.

i dont know what i am looking for. do i use the piano roll? or is there a wrapper i use? it seems i need a template with all the knobs layed out so i can tell them what to do. am i thinking the wrong way? because i have spent countless hours trying to figure it out. i hope it comes to me soon. what should i look up in the FL6 totorial?

i don't use FL so I can't say, but i'm pretty sure you can do it. Start a thread called "Help with automation in FL" and you'll attract all the FL users, and I'm sure you'll get some help.

Ableton Live, Cakewalk Sonar, Mackie Tracktion, Cubase, FL Studio all certainly do this.
