Im on the look out for two things at the moment:
- Intersting hydrolic sounds (like the boot of a car etc)
- Powerful sounding servo samples (forklifts, tail lifts etc)
I plan to do some recording myself too, but yours are always great so if you get the chance to do some of these it would be cool.
Cheers Genetic!
Btw, which on is it you've ordered?

K tee boy I'll for some of those. Its a Marantz PMD-660. I had a stock unit and it is noisy. This modified version is nice (for the sound samples on the site). So don't get the stock version. Its Not here yet but hopefully soon.

To be honest, Im looking to set up a laptop for my second field rig. Right now Im using a Mini MP into a Nomad 3. It works great, but Id really like something with more inputs for stuff like car recording (when I might need stereo pairs and numerous spot mics).
Will let you know how I get on. And ofcourse, will share the goods!

Have you done any small servos like coffee grinder, dustbuster yet? believe it or not you can make them sound like the bigger servos. If not let me know I have some for you. I just haven't gotten around to Freesounding them yet.tee boy wrote:- Powerful sounding servo samples (forklifts, tail lifts etc)
Oh and congrats on the custom Marantz... how was it customized?

Oade Brothers aren't specific at all about how they customize. All they say is that they replace numerous passive and active electronics or something to that degree. It does sound awesome. Easily as good as the audio-buddy, and in the same range as the pres on the 1820m.
I know a guy who works at a big carpentry place. Forlifts big saws, all kinds of good stuff. I'll be asking him for a favor.

Metal shears make some wicked noises too, just incase he has one of those knocking around too
Mr Tunes,
Cool, I'll have to do some fooking around, see what I can find. Right now Im after some of these sounds to make some futuristic machine samples. The servo's iv recorded just dont have the 'size' I want.
Did have a look at Freesound, yeah. But it was ages ago when it had just started and there wasnt much on there. Will have to check it out again, Im sure its great now.

gurgly sounds.
I did a project for encyclopedia brittanica which included sound for all their stock footage. I created great gurgly and rumbling sounds by blowing bubbles in a glass of water with a straw, and slowing down the tape til it 'felt' right.
Dunno if thats what yer looking for xoxos
(would the plural of xoxos be xoxox?)
anyway, sorry about the slight hijack....
The problems I experienced with the Marantz had to do with software issues... I'm hoping you won't have the same 'issues'

Have you seen the new Tascam? Its pricy but looks nice.Genetic_Junk wrote:K tee boy I'll for some of those. Its a Marantz PMD-660. I had a stock unit and it is noisy. I olding out for the 744 though, this baby looks the business!
Not tried the PMD-660, do you reckon the stock version is worth looking at, or is it just to noisy to be useful?

Gurgulies may be coming tonight. I hear early signs of indigestion from onions too.
I am off to vegas tomorrow for a estate planning seminar for the legal office. Not anticipating anything too interesting (with regards to sound) there so I'll be posting stuff next week.
Yesterday when testing it out I got some frogs croaking to each other. It worked out nice in stereo as they were on the extreme opposite sides of the pond. Do you want the raw wav? I'll edit the silence out.
Hi dunder. I won't even install the marantz software. I just take the wavs straight off from the card and edit them in software that is not made by marantz.

A couple of years ago I did a track for someone that was all frog samples... the client hated it
probably a good choice not to use their software. We were trying to integrate it with newsboss.

I got the FR-2 (one of my secret wepons) very very good for field recording and the pres are spot on - later if I can get the balance right with the sample side of things and make some dosh from them I will get the bigger version for six channel field recordings.tee boy wrote:Have you seen the new Tascam? tee boy dpn't even bother with the stock version of the 660. YOu can get it customized for $770. Of course if you want 24 96 then go for the fr2. I've heard good things about the tascam. Hi SampleStream. Though the edirol r-4 I have heard some bad things about. Not tried though.
