IS CUBASE SE ENOUGH??

Hello All,
I'm presently a cubase vst-/32 user and was looking at the specs for cubase se3
it looks quite good and seems to have enough inputs and features do keep me satisfied. Has anyone here migrated from VST to se3. I don't do a lot of live recording and I use VSTi's. I use the drum editor and piano role alot. Plus draw volume curves in the audio.
Does SE have as much editing features as VST-32, or should I go with higher version. Or maybe stick with vst/32 when I go to a new system with win XP?
Thank you

dont ask spaceman such a thing
he cant be serious about serious questions from serious people about serious software in serious situations

well I moved from vst5.1 to SX2 and now SX3
I bought a second hand SX2 license cheap and upgraded to SX3,
so it was not much more than SE for me.
I did choose the SX because of some enhanced features, like more vsti channels,
but it might not be worth it for you.
so I think you had already a look into the comparison chart at steinberg.
if not just go there and see all the differences and see what you need.
but if you´re fine with vst32, why should you change?

Good point rsmus7,
I guess I'm a bit of a host whore, I just picked up Acid pro 4 cheap and I'm enjoying it so far, also got Live LE with my Roland UR80 as wel as reason adapted. I guess I like shiney new things too much. I've read that Cubase VST32 will work on win XP, so I'm not sure I'll have to upgrade as I'm use to using it.

I upgraded from Cubasis VST to SE3.
It's fantastic. The only bugbears I have are :
(1) No track routing - so no mixer groups
(2) No audio warping
Although SE3 does have full timestretch implemented and you can timestretch audio tracks just by resizing them, which is sweeeeeeeeet

How complex are your compositions? What are your needs? It is limited, but if you don't need more than 48 audio tracks and 5 insert plugins, for example, then you're probably cool. And you can upgrade to the full beasts later.musiclinks wrote:Hello All,

I think it would be wise to upgrade from VST32 ASAP, though; things will increasingly just not work with it and dammit, the new Cubase versions are just too cool.

well musiclinks
if you´re a host whore,
I would invite you to try energyXT it will enhance your vst32 ( used as a plugin)too
or you can use it (standalone) as a full blown sequencer.
and it is only 50$.
www.xt-hq.com
that might be enough.
and yes my vst5.1 was running on winXP.

Thanks Scuzzphut,
Sounds good, I will miss the mixer groups a bit though, it is quite handy to have, but the audio stretch feature is cool, as that is something I miss in VST32.
Oddly enough I can't get SE3 in Toronto only SE, as apparently the local distributor is having issues with Steiny head office about the pricing of SE. SO the distro has held of distributing it in Canada.
Bummer, I'll have to get it online, probably get a better price though.

I have actually dloaded XT, I have started fooling around with it, I like it so far, I need some more time with it and to read the help files, but the price cannot be beat, I haven't loaded into my Cubase yet, but will this weekend.

I wonder what they want for it? You can get Cubase SL with the System4 audio interface for, like, $4-500 CDN...musiclinks wrote:Thanks Scuzzphut,

I heard that steiny wanted the retail price to be around $250. which is a dramatic increase over SE's current price of about $140. and considering the price of SL system 4 (which I forgot about..) I can see why the dist. is upset with Steiny head office.bduffy wrote:I wonder what they want for it? Yeah, $140 sounds more reasonable for such a crippled version...I dunno, I just don't understand Steinbergs economic practices at all...let me see if Vancouver's selling it at all.musiclinks wrote:I heard that steiny wanted the retail price to be around $250. which is a dramatic increase over SE's current price of about $140. and considering the price of SL system 4 (which I forgot about..) What about SL on its own? That's much closer to the full feature-set.
