- a sampleset of twelve instances of the same original sample ( well, so to say :long time ago !), transposed half-step by half-step, in three variations :

1- stretched
2- fired,
3- flanged

...that means at least 36 IR ( of approximativey 1M each, be warned ! )

these "variations" reflects three degrees of turbulence ; the IR in the "flanged" folder , for instance, were threated through the mda detune and therefore is quite influenced by phase cancellations

these samples are based on a previous single synthesizer's note, heavily loaded in harmonic content

The result as IR , sounds quite like a tuned comb filter effect, each of them designed to be played on the his dedicated major scale, as a long drone, giving a very similar mood the sympathetic string of a sitar ( and the tampura as background intrument ) gives to classical indian music

As you may hear, the area of use both in harmonical and rythmical point of view is quite restricted, but as "a way to the land of eternal peace" for ambiant ( and even meditation ) music lovers it can do a wonderful job

A first advice : for the guitar players :

1) choose an IR depending on it scale and then...

2) tune your guitar on open tuning. based on the IR's scale you've choosed ( a "C# " sample for an open tuned guitar in C# for instance )

A second advice :

If you don't want to restrict your instrumental performance at a single scale ( an even at the only Dorian mode of your choosen scale ) just low down the effect level a bit, but i highly suggest anyhow to stay in scales in that these drones are corresponding to
- the Dorian (1st degree : major, minor relative, melodic or harmonic of the same scale) or
- the Myxolidian (5st degree) mode

A last advice :

FEEDBACKS AND COMMENTS ON THESE IR WILL BE REALLY HIGHLY APPRECIATED

and here a use in situation ( a piano sono + its "flanged" drone in C ) :

Thanks! I'll have a go, usually I don't use convolution, but let's see what I can come up with these! Anyway, thank you for the efford.
A guy with serious GAS and lots of unused VSTs. But if I someday need them...

Something wrong with MIME types or something else? Maybe having a suffix on the file would help. The link opened a 36 MB text file in my browser. Anywa, I got it saved now (prolly should've used wget in the first place to get it). I'm trying them out when I get to the studio.

A couple of mp3 examples of these in-use would be cool. I don't use IR's yet myself but I'm always curious to hear the variety of sounds that can be created with them.
I'm Kieran, aka dblue, aka illformed | illformed.com | Glitch 2 now available for Windows, Mac and Linux!

I also get a huge page of thxt that says it must be converted with binhex...
I like the idea behind your impulses, though.

if it's a question of suffix, linked as this it should be better, i hope ...

I'd love to get my hans on these, but the links are no good. And as I understand it, ".sit" is a compression type used only in Mac, isn't it? What format are these IRs and what kind of compression are you giving them out as? The usual WAV files and a ZIP or RAR folder would be GREAT!!!!!!! :D

Sorry, mate, cannot help much actually, i should find an application that can compress in ZIP format, but nevertheless and as a default option, i uploaded these three, uncompressed samples in "C" of each variations ( as wave files, i just hope your navigator allows you to save them on your hardisk ) :

www.anak-krakatoa.net/~downl/misc/C_stretched.wav

www.anak-krakatoa.net/~downl/misc/C_fired.wav

www.anak-krakatoa.net/~downl/misc/C_flanged.wav

Afterwards and though it will change there durations it's dead easy to make copies of half-steps transpositions of the original sample and use them as IR if you feel to do it. ( 6 half-step up / 6 half-step down ) using any audio editors, like audacity for example (freeware)

I recommand to any of you, if you feel that it sounds too bright for example, to create a copy after equalisation

I also have unexpected results by using an early reflexion unit ( room machine RM844 ...see the database )

have fun ...
