And System|4 is only $398! Woo! Not bad.
thats cool, however saved by technology is selling SE for $134.
it's still only the older release of SE and not SE3, I'm waiting for the dust to settle to see what is going to happen with SE3, I'd hate to buy SE and then have SE3 come out at the same price....

Oh - does it have to say "SE3" in order to be SE3? I think Tom Lee is selling the current version, the copy is the same...

Are you sure?
I have SE 1 and SL3 and you can do sub groups in both. It would be strange if you can't do that in SE3. That's a very basic feature :?

Yeah, I was going to ask about that: you mean that there are no Group Channels? That you can't route one track to another? I don't see anything in the specs to suggest you can't do normal routing. That would be a little cruel...

No groups sounds more like LE(?)

Another good reason why cubase needs a demo, if all the other companies can do demos so that you check them out why can't steinberg.
Not to rant to much, but when I was looking at cubase VST, they had demos I could use, and therefore bought the software immediately after.
Why should the consumer need to guess how good their software is??
Why couldn't they do a demo of at least SE or even LE so that you could try the features, and if it gets cracked, who cares? it's only the light version....

Is there an "LE" too? Good lord!

Agreed. Full working 30 day demos generate the kind of good will that makes me buy, even if the 'other one' without a demo looks like it might be a bit better.

Hmm. Why did I buy Cubase?

Yes, Steinberg wants to stratify it's products into infinity.

yes, although LE is OEM so you can't buy it on it's own.
unless any of you know a way of getting it otherwise.

I like cubase as well, although their business practices of late are bugging me:
1) the upgrade situation from VST users is quite vague.:x :x
2) dongle dongle dongle, has been discussed ad nauseum.:x :x :x :x :x
3) no demo, if energy XT and every other host can do it (even Pro Tools!?!?!?) why not steinberg?? :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x

Agreed. The reason I bought Kontakt, over other samplers, was because I could demo it; that was $500; no way I throw down for something totally new without trying it 1st.

I wonder if I ever would've got hooked on Cubase if my work hadn't purchased Nuendo? Mind you, there weren't that many options back then...and there was a demo of SX 1 for awhile...

Post

I guess I was 'sold' Cubase, as it was the first mainstream software I bought, and seemed to be at the top of the heap at the time. I've had no reason to regret that.

The dongle never leaves the studio (I have a Roland 2480 I use for remotes), so that's not much of an issue for me, but I still think the policy sucks.

Oh Man...you can still get that demo from some crazy italian link...let me see if I can find that thread (practically had the same discussion last month...of course...) :D

Sorry, can't find that link yet; I thought someone supplied it before...Here's the old thread:
