thanks for the help, I'm going to talk to Steiny Canada and see if they have demo they can give me.
They better not give me the try it at the store line, or they won't be getting me to upgrade to SE LE SL SX XXL XXXL or any other combo of letters they can come up with....

Good: be tough. I remember how long we had to wait for Nuendo 3 to come in...I don't know what problem Steinberg has w/Canada. Good luck to you.

It might be that our market is small, however back in mid nineties when a got into VST 3.5 they were just down the street from me (sweet), and they were much more responsive to customers I was able to pick up demos upgrades etc... and the club cubase was great. You would think that now with all the good products out there that they would kick it up a notch. I think Steiny is suffering from Complacency, that their product is so good that their customers will jump through hoops....well, only so much.
There move from VST to the sx series was less than stellar, and I'm glad that I was not an early adopter to the SX line.
That's why I want to try SX SE SL etc... to see how it will work on my system. If
I have to shell out $150-$750 to try the product, that doesn't really work for me.

I'm presently a cubase vst-/32 user and was looking at the specs for cubase se3
it looks quite good and seems to have enough inputs and features do keep me satisfied. Has anyone here migrated from VST to se3. I don't do a lot of live recording and I use VSTi's. I use the drum editor and piano role alot. Plus draw volume curves in the audio.
Does SE have as much editing features as VST-32, or should I go with higher version. Or maybe stick with vst/32 when I go to a new system with win XP?

Thank you
I use Cubase SE for audio-recordings. It's not the most stable host, but it does the job fine. For midi I'd prefer to use SL/SX 3; after /32 you would be disappointed with SE. It also has no freeze.

Totally, good points (Club Cubase???). Although I, personally, really enjoyed SX 1 (I didn't even switch to SX 2 for over a year!) - but I discovered it via Nuendo 1 - and you wanna talk about a crippled program! Of course, now, I'd rather kill a puppy than use SX 1. And SX 3 really is the best version to date.

Have you guys ever tried n-track? http://www.ntrack.com/
It's had some stability issues, but it has a good forum and a very responsive developer. Lot's of features.

On a features/price basis it's one of the best values out there.

It looks like there is an upgrade path from VST to SX. not too bad.....

so, I called Steiny Canada this afternoon and they did not have me on record for cubase, only for clean (which sucked IMO). THey did not have my wavelab reg, or my VST 3.7 or ver 5 on file. Whatever miserable person I got on the phone there then asked if I had the reg card??!???!
I luckily had a photocopy.
I just love being treated like a crook...I love it, you lose my registration and it's my fault...idiots.
Maybe Sonar or Sony wants my business??

Hi SS,

I tried this program ages ago, but the latest release looks good. The only thing is I need video as well for some of the projects I do. Do anyone know if there is a seperate video plugin for any VST host??

Well that's a shame...following an informal SX3 demo out here by Chris from Steinberg Canada, I had written him a few times with questions and he was really nice and helpful - but he's not listed on the site anymore, so maybe they replaced him with an arse? It'd be a shame to lose a Cubase user, but if you're ever going to learn a host from scratch, now would be the time to do it. Personally, I can't imagine going from VST-32 to SX 3 and being disappointed, but I found VST-32 to be bizarre and unusable (one undo??), so I welcomed the Nuendo engine.

So what did they say once you cleared that up? How much do they want for an upgrade? $300?

Yeah: you can use the VST-Winamp bridge to run video in-time. I couldn't get it to work when I tried it, but it's worth a shot. There is always Sonar and ACID.

Chris AFAIK is no longer with Steinberg Canada, heard it through the grapevine. I don't know why though. Chris was good though, I've known him since 97'
They want $400 for an upgrade to SX3 from VST. A little expensive, but in line
with what they usually charge for upgrades.

Oh yeah, I guess you would know of him, you being all T.O.'d! Too bad he's gone, he's a good guy.

$400...yeah...more than one would like, but nothing unusual. And that's a massive upgrade. Well, I hope you [do the righ thing] upgrade to SX! It's an awesome app. :D

If all works out I will. I need to get my new computer first. hopefully they keep the upgrade policy for another couple of months. 8)

Oh, I think that upgrade policy will be there indefinitely.

Ok, rsmus7,
look what you did. I downloaded energy xt and now, i'm HOOKED TO THIS PROGRAM!!! WHY didnt i see this program before i bought sonar?!? (not that i dont like sonar; i love it, its just that ext has all i need)

It shows me the piano roll in the track view itself. Its MUCH faster and looks more professional. It shows the patch names on the left pane. Only gripe i have right now is it doesnt have a full blown mixer. (or atleast i havent found it)

I'm in love with this product, and its only 50 bux. I think i'm going to buy it even though i have sonar. BUT first, i have to dwelve deeper and find out if it doesnt have something i need really bad.

One thing i noticed is, the piano roll doesnt have a pencil tool and you have to double click to add notes. I'd appreciate if there was a pencil tool or something like that. jmio.

I'm in luuuuuuv baby!!!!
