It would be cool to have a central focus for this kind of stuff.

I reckon on the whole kvr is pretty tolerant of "weirdo" music though. There was that dude in your lost in the mist thread, but I think he was just stirring it.

Still, I'd be up for an experimental wing.

Good on ya for bringing it up rachmiel

is that too harsh?
Not at all. It's true. I don't post a lot of stuff here because people criticize me for things that are there intentionally, and then when I explain myself, I feel like an asshole. I see where you're coming from. *nod*

;)

in all fairness, this would require wings for all different genres.

Try a pm to "ben kvr"

If we don't have much luck would you consider using the auditorium?

Sickle's section is already in place and would be a good starting point. Or another section could easily be created.
As mentioned previously, there is a good deal of cross polination between kvr and auditorium.

Experimental music is music that tries to push the boundaries of what is conventially deemed as being music.

So.. years later after Squarepusher hit the scene, and his music has become a sort of archetype of the drill and bass genre, can you really call it experimental?

I don't believe you can say that he's experimental now. He used to be, in the same way that Hendrix used to be experimental, and now he's just a legend.

Squarepusher should get legend status as far as I'm convinced. He pushed the boundaries and showed us the kind of acousmatic music we can achieve (same with Aphex Twin and Autechre) ... but now that we've been there and done that, how experimental is it now??

No it wouldn't. Experimental isn't a genre, its an attitude or direction.

well put. but those guys have signatures. we may have called them experimental, but they had already found their reason for making music. they stopped experimenting and put out what they created from nonexistence (somewhat of a)... i think if there's gonna be an experimental wing, it should be established so we can find ourselves.

by myself or with a group, i'd love to be find out what my signature is.

yes i agree. i meant it in the way that people would expect such wings (too much division to even mention). i totally agree on the attitude, direction thingies of the term experimental. after all, you're to experiment in hopes to reach a successful ending of some sort.

Back in 1990, beatslicing was experimental. Now its a household thing. You do it, I do it, shit, BT does it too I bet.

So what's the next thing? I can't honestly say.

I've once or twice been a pretentious fuckwit and say "yeah man, like, lolz.. I'm experimental.." but the truth? I'm probably not that experimental. I mean, the things I do with sound, they are tried and tested methods, everyone on here has probably done them.

But the way I see it, experimenting isn't really the be all and end all. Music doesn't exist solely from experimentation, and you don't need to experiment to make good music.

But I think if there is an experimental section, it should be more about finding new processes and new ways of thinking about sound. Not 1500 pages of "how do I sound like Come To Daddy lolzx lolz!11!"

Anyone agree?
