Rurik, I already said earlier that "Experimental" is not a genre. Its an approach, a mindset.

The forum is a place to converse about this. Someone can be experimental with jazz chords just as much as they can with a soldering iron. That's the aim of the forum - to bring all that kind of tinkery together.

Well, yeah its an 'if'. There are a few possible 'ifs'. Is it a likely one?
no idea ... what do you reckon ???

Why 'especially' ?? :?
because (to me) the danger (however slight) of insularity and incest seems to run counter to the idea of experimentation and innovation ... i know the concept of the new forum is MAYBE less about the music and more about its inception / process / philosophy but IMHO even such 'background' discussions as these only make sense if taking place in a diverse context of more 'conventional' forms and artists (which COULD be the rest of the auditorium anyway) ...

I could do with a bit less diversity of trolls, these days.
youre not the only one ...

go london!
You are right - there are many many forms - one forum (one section for everything) is a good idea - it is also a good idea to have mood sections (like at the auditorium) and also limited style sections that cover immense scope (like at the auditorium)- its classification made easy.

Some guys like more and more very strict classifications, for academic or commercial reasons - hence the big big sites like soundclick.

This is just one extra diversity that has been added, its a mega scope of styles (some maybe yet to be badged)

Its immense - but I like to keep it simple (like at the auditorium), not too simple and not too ott that it becomes what you are essentially getting at - mega genera listings with strict guidelines.

BOX? ;)

Best regards,

Peter

How can 'experimental' be even considered a genre in the first place?

by discretion, ie. creating a forum.. sorta delineates the concept of 'seperate things' real well when you make a place to talk bout them... but don't worry about considering that that's sorta implicit or nakedly obvious, keep pumping until you spurt. after all, "this box is yours, there are many like it, but..."

hey, you get what you want. a special place just for "you!" paid for with coin of the realm. and don't forget the tip on the way out.
you come and go, you come and go. amitabha neither a follower nor a leader be tagore "where roads are made i lose my way" where there is certainty, consideration is absent.

Difficult to say, but I would generally expect a greater degree of maturity from those who are less concerned about following a specific genre and more interested in making their own genre-less way for their own reasons.

Better to be individually isolated in order to continue that self-serving sense of being the 'enlightened outsider' ? :)

I dont see why. I'm not convinced that 'experimentalism' can only be experienced as a reference point to 'convention'.

a "mindset.." all nice and specific isn't it, some things are experimental, some things aren't..

"..it's not a douche. it's a way of life.. a refreshing romantic morning of violets and chirping birds.."

and we shall always remember that things have categories, and some things are one category, and other things are another...

.... nice garden, and who made this cute little path?
