How can 'experimental' be even considered a genre in the first place?

by discretion, ie. creating a forum.. sorta delineates the concept of 'seperate things' real well when you make a place to talk bout them... but don't worry about considering that that's sorta implicit or nakedly obvious, keep pumping until you spurt. after all, "this box is yours, there are many like it, but..."

hey, you get what you want. a special place just for "you!" paid for with coin of the realm. and don't forget the tip on the way out.
You are posting in your box from your box in this box right here ;)
No shit!

Talk about invalidating one's own arguments..

thats assuming that those involved DONT see experimental as a genre ...
whyterabbyt wrote:Better to be individually isolated in order to continue that self-serving sense of being the 'enlightened outsider' ? :)
not buying that one ... cant think of one 'recognised' experimentalist at KVR who wouldnt know which other members to turn to for a considered opinion ... in some ways the 'non-experimental' artists are the outsiders here ...
whyterabbyt wrote:I dont see why. I'm not convinced that 'experimentalism' can only be experienced as a reference point to 'convention'.
i did say it was IMHO ... but if not in relation to convention / accepted knowledge how DO you define what is experimental ???

Another 'if' ?

In other words, the presence of a recognisable subset of similarly minded people does have benefits.

Now, that I can agree, is a valid point.

Positing that it is 'better' for that group, in some unquantifiable way, because that group resides as a subset of a larger group, that I dont see as being quite as obvious.
in some ways the 'non-experimental' artists are the outsiders here ...
But not in others.

From 'conventional forms and artists' to 'conventional knowledge'. Slight shift in context there, surely?

Really? I presumed it was just platonic.

You'll get used to it, kiddo.

It must be 'convoluted' then, cos it sure as f**k isnt 'logic'.

yup ... where would experimentalism be without it ???

it was never my point that it isnt helpful to have like-minded (or at least understanding) people around ...
whyterabbyt wrote:Positing that it is 'better' for that group, in some unquantifiable way, because that group resides as a subset of a larger group, that I dont see as being quite as obvious.
neither is positing that it is 'better' if that subset goes off and hides in its own little hole somewhere (i couldve used the word BOX i guess there) ...

granted ...
whyterabbyt wrote:From 'conventional forms and artists' to 'conventional knowledge'. Slight shift in context there, surely?
nah ... just a slight shift in use of language that only a few people would be bothered to pick up on and pretend it fundamentally (sorry ... slightly[/]) changed what i said ...
