My question concerns the importing of multi .wav instruments into ST2.1.1.

I've learned from IK multimedia support that a) Sampletank prefers .wav files that are named to it's liking - Trombonec4v127 is an example - name, note, velocity. b) ST2.1.1 doesn't support multi velocities import, so it's best to stick with 127 when renaming a sample.

It's a fair amount of work to rename instruments that are made up of a gazillion .wav files.

My question is: is there a formula for picking out the number of samples and particular notes out of the huge lot? I've looked at the notes sampled in smaller multisamples, but don't seem to see a pattern there. In other words, is there a rhyme or reason to picking out say, the 7 most apporopriate notes out of a pool of 20, and which notes should they be?

I hope this makes a little bit of sense. I'm trying to do the least amount of renaming and importing, without losing too much sound quality.

Thanks.

Oh, and hoorah for SR.

There's no easy formula, sorry. It's hard work to choose which samples to include, how many splits, which velocity layers, etc. I don't think SampleTank is the right tool for that. The sample import feature in ST2 is more designed for quickly bringing in things like phrases and loops so you can process them with ST2's synth engines and effects section.

Thanks so much, Kim.

I feel like less of an idiot now. The user manual should read "imports and scrambles"!

Could someone recommend what would be a good tool for this process that can then be converted to ST2 format, with say, Extreme Sample Converter?

Thanks again.

Any sampler that allows full user editing and has extensive export (or EXSC import/translate) options would be a good choice. Kontakt and Halion come to mind, but I'm sure there are plenty of other good choices out there. Check around on the Samples, Sampling, and Sample Libraries forum here on KVR for some ideas.

Of course, once you get it into ST2, you can apply Stretch or PSTS (which is s much improved in 2.1, and is really cool), as well as all the ST2 effects (including algorithms from Amplitube and T-Rack, of course).

Are there any EXS24 to Sampletank converters on the market for PC?
