Anyone know of a good resource for flute samples? I particularly like the breathy Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull) style but anything would be good - especially if free or cheap!

Cheers :)

Chineewind vsti from Kong Audio has a very nice breathy sound and might be worth checking out. There's a cut down free version available.

Also here's a link to some I recorded myself from a PVC Native American type flute. They're posted at looptalk though, which you need to own FL studio to access.

Try ixox flute as well. It's both SF2 and VST, and can be found here.

This is one of many free files for our registered users but... anyway, enjoy!
Its nothing all that great but it blends extremely well with violins for shimmer. You can mod up and down to hear her breath at the end of each note as well.

http://www.beladmedia.com/legato_flute.zip (GIGA but easy to convert)

Here it in a Garritan demo

The shimmer/wind is the flute.

Thanks for all your replies - excuse my ignorance - I have downloaded the above - how do you go about opening it?

Thanks again,
