...and how do we know what that 'sound' is :?:

It's not like we all have a PT-rig in the corner of our living :D

So you might elaborate a little bit on what you are looking for.

you can hear this compressor on that DVD

Smack! features three compression modes, unique compression ratios, and harmonic distortion ideally suited for achieving a wide range of sonic variations and colorations. Additionally, the plug-in supports side-chain processing, multichannel track types, and the full range of ProTools sample rates and plug-in formats.
Modeling automatic gain reduction devices previously found only in hardware, Smack! controls the volume of just about any source in a "musical" manner, adding fullness, and intelligibility

* Foolproof operation - Handles any kind of audio material with ease
* Three compression modes - Includes a mode for emulating classic electro-optical limiters
* Unique compression ratios - From subtle compression to hard limiting
* Harmonic distortion - Add subtle analog-sounding distortion

So have you worked with it. Just because there are some nice examples and some great marketing infos doesn't mean that you actually NEED it to achieve what you want. There might be piles of stuff that does that.

So what do you want to do with it, do you have experience with other compressors, etc.

The compressors that I like and use are from PSP, DB-audioware and I also like the free DigitalFishPhones stuff a lot. And there are several other (even free) good compressors like C3 for example.

The other thing with compressoers is that you REALLY need to be able to use them for real good results. By that I mean: not just slam some preset on top of a mix that makes it a lot louder and be done with it.

Check out Voxengo Marquis. I'm willing to bet it will do anything Smack will.

thank you guys!!! I'm searching for
Harmonic distortion and automatic gain reduction

Perhaps Golden Uni-Pressor | GUP-1 or their Golden Compressor? Camelphat3 does a great job of saturation/auto-gain compression too. :D

Man, that Smack! looks sweet, though...(all $600 of it!!) :o :-o
