if you mean synth1 etc. by "other synths", well, it IS actually crap
Each to their own I guess.

For the record I prefer Synth1 over Imposcar, Pro53, and Toxic for some purposes.

By the way: MdaPiano doesn't sound like a real Steinway Grand either :uhuhuh: .

Huh! I allways thought it did!
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

This may be a little off topic, but why even bother with trying to emulate old analog synths accurately? Why not try to think in terms of best taking advantage of the tools that are particular of your own era. Try and move forward, not look back. I'd bet that most of the older synth pioneers would have been overjoyed to have the versatility that we do in our current arsenal of instruments. If you can make something great from an instrument that is relatively new then perhaps in 20 years people will look back at the sounds you made with Reaktor or whatever and love it for it's individuality and try figure out how to get that sound with their current tools. That sure beats another tired 303 or even moog rehash in my book. Anyway, just a thought.

Baniev wrote:I can´t understand why people like some virtual synths, if i hear the very old psychedelic trance sets and compare my synths with the sound of that synths i always notice that virtual synths ALWAYS deviate from the note they should play, have you never noticed it? You can´t notice it when you listen just to your synthpresets but listen to your synths after hearing something with real analog synths and you´ll see what i mean definetly. the other problem is that the synths aren´t full, if i wanat a full sound i must reduce resonance but the real synths aren´t like that, they can sound full and have a good resonance. The next problem is that all virtual synths i heard except phoscyon and ABl sound simulated, i can count another 100 things, damn why the TB303´s sound well and all other synths sound like crap?
*ahem* pilot error *ahem*

If you have such high expectations you need to expand your knowledge of synths in this world. There are synths like imposcar and Vector and ZynaddSubFX and ASynth that can sound very much like analog gear in the right hands.

P.S. The Arturia Moog Modular V has the approval of Moog himself to sound authentic.

Next you'll be claiming vb-1 doesn't sound like an ernie ball musicman stingray. Some people have no ears :|

id want one, i like the colours :hyper:
It does look good and I wouldn't say no ether  . All that modular stuff is a pissing contest to see who's got the most modules though (I came close to winning once :) ) The Buchla is a great lab instrument but gimme a Matrix 12, Jupiter 8 or Prophet to play music on. It's a major pain to set up a modular. The Moog is all over but I'm pretty sure the P5 is on more hit records that any other synth and it always sounds different. The Matrix 6 is a better modular than most modulars.

:dog: You're right, forgot that one: VB-1 doesn't sound like a real Fender bass, neither Cellofan sounds like Fitch's cello.

I am so disapointed that I'll kill myself 1st thing tomorrow morning, after breakfast and watching the weather forecast  .

[edit]And a Voyager doesn't sound like like a whistle, and a Rhodes doesn't sound like a trumpet, and a Virus doesn't sound like a real parf, although it can get close, and...

WTF is a ernie ball musicman stingray?

Baniev wrote:I´am dissapointed that almost all synths i know don´t sound real, like analo synths, i affort very much, master my songs, compress the synths and add effects like echo, reverb and flanger and delay and they still don´t sound like released psytrance songs at all, but for example the aoudiorealism bassline through it´s sequenzer sounds very well, i did a song with it and other synths, mastered everything and ABL sounds well and like the real synth in the song, but it is hopeless with all the other synths so i´am wondering if only TB303 emulations like ABL and phoscyon sound like real instruments?
BUY yourself REAKTOR - with the emphasis on "BUY" as in "PURCHASE".

You might just have to change your mind on that one

that is not entirely true. the sound of many hardware synths, both analog and digital, can get very weak when you increase the resonance. it really depends on the filters they used.

and by the way...check out gmedia's stuff. imposcar and minimonsta both sound amazing. supposedly oddity has even been embraced by long time arp odyssey users. do they sound 100% like real analogs?...no. but are they great sounding synths?...hell yes.

Hey, Baniev...don't worry. It's not your gear that's broken, it's your ears that are broken.

Music made with cheap shit generally sounds like music made with cheap shit, whether it's good music or bad. Hey, guess what? You like the demos of some commercial VSTi, and hey, guess what? Some of them sound analogue to you. Yes, you're right, some of them do, and guess what...it's the ones that cost some M...O...N...E...Y that often sound good. Does that give you a hint? Put your hands in your f**king pocket and stop whining. You can afford a fast PC, you can afford a decent VSTi. And if none of them are up to your standards then likewise...stop whining and save up for one of your beloved real analogue synths that you've never heard and don't actually know what they sound like.

And did I really just read a comment from somebody else about how h/w VAs sound better than s/w VAs? Please tell me I'm hallucinating.

And f**king double

If you think h/w VAs sound better than s/w VAs in your PC, then that's a f**king HUGE hint to save up and buy some better converters, or a better amp or a visit to the GP to get your ears syringed

No. What you're looking for is someone to confirm that it's not your lack of experience that makes things sound mediocre.

Unfortunately it's not possible to do so, and you're just going to have to sit down and do some serious practical studying.

OK, OK, OK...I apologise already. I've just finished a run of 6 nights, I have to move house next week and I simply don't have time to do all the things I need to do, I applied for life insurance and they think I'm a f**king alcoholic because I drink 2 bottles of wine PER WEEK, FFS...I've got an itchy arse and my left testicle hurts where I fell off the sofa while decorating.

But I'm still right...dickheads are dickheads....I just apologise in advance for calling the dickheads dickheads. :x
