Will Cubase SX3 do everything that EZ-Editor does?

I am trying to get drum loops to loop in Sampletank 2.1. Sampletank doesn't have a function for looping, so the samples must have the loop data embedded before they are loaded up.

On another forum, it was recommended that EZ-Editor has this function for pretty cheap bucks. I have the demo, and it looks pretty good. However, I run SX3 as my main host, and I know it has all kinds of 'hitpoint' functions for samples which I have never used before.

Before I pay for the EZ-Editor license, I was hoping someone could tell me if SX3 already has this capability. (and if so, kind folks, could you give me a brief "how-to" explanation :hihi: ?)

Thanks

AFAIK Cubase SX doesn't have any loop functionality. Hitpoints in Cubase are used by giving every beat or note (or whatever) of a loop its own hitpoint, so that the loop can be played at different speed.

There's a small Wave Editor from Yamaha called Tiny Wave Editor that does what you are looking for. It was actually written for Yamaha's line of hardware samplers a few years ago, but it also works without one (I'm not exactly sure if it is legal to use the software this way, though. OTOH I've known this program for years and have never heard anything that it would be illegal).

btw: Aren't drumloops usually "looped" by just retriggering the sample? If you would just loop the sample and let it play, it would surely run out of sync sooner or later, wouldn't it?

Thanks for the confirmation. I'll check out the Yamaha editor (I can't imagine a situation that would make using this illegal).

Regarding your aside about looping drum loops in the sequencer, you are correct, and actually, I prefer to record that way. However, when I'm auditioning loops, I like to let them run a bit just to get a bit of inspiration. So as long as I'm loading them up, I figure I'd go the extra mile and loop 'em too.

Well, there could be something in the license, that it's only for owners of a Yamaha sampler. But I don't think so...

Okay, that makes sense. :)

I followed your link, and Yamaha's TWE is provided as an unrestricted download on their site. The included readme file only cautions agains pirating copywrited files with TWE. Other than that it looks good.

That being said, I've been fooling around with it, but can't figure out how to get it to do what I want to do. I've loaded a loop to edit, but can't figure out which command is supposed to do what I need. If I hit "loop," the save button lights up. If I hit save, does that automatically change the original sample? Also, how do I set the loop points?

Any guidance is much appreciated, Oook. Thanks

I just had to figure this out for myself (it's been a few years since I used that software):

The "loop" button just activates replay of loops. To set the loop start and end points you have to set the playing cursor at the respective positions and then click the buttons that look like |<- (for the start point) and ->| (for the end point), just below the "loop" button.

Try Audacity sample editor, it's free.....

I'm allmost shure you can save your wave file with loop information.

Hm... *scratches head*

I cannot even figure out how to set loop points in Audacity...

...and then? Hit 'save?' Or is there another rendering feature?

I'm stuck in the office for the next few hours, so I won't get to try this out (or Audacity) until this evening.

As always, your guidance(Oook and Olepro) is greatly appreciated.

Save should work. At least it reloaded with the loop points still present. Haven't tried it in a sampler.
