Hollow Sun must be shutdown too!!!

It doesn't mean it's right just because people do it. And for all we know, those companies did get permission to use Roland's stuff. If they didn't, then Roland would have the right to sue, I guess.

As for sample libraries... dunno. I'd think they'd get permission to sample and redistribute the stuff so long as some of the money from each purchase goes back to the company responsible for the sounds, maybe?

I could be wrong on all of this, but that's just how I interpreted the license agreement from Edirol.

I don't care enough to persue this anymore, but if you really want to find out, email Roland or any company and ask them about it directly (instead of being dumb, Mr. Vulich.)

I think you will find hollowsun as an original content provider to a few hardware sampler manufactures, one of his talents - perfect loops to make large sounds out of the smallest wave sample possible ;)

Best regards,

Peter

This has come up in the past. There was once someone who had dealt specifically with a hardware manufacturer once who chimed in on one of the threads.

I vaguely remember the answer being that only the ROM files are granted copyright, so that you can't rip them out of the machine, stick a software interface on it and sell your virtual machine. But if recording the machine in its normal use (ie via line out) then you weren't infringing on anyone's rights.

I suppose it depends on what info is contained in the documents that comes with the drum machine.

Since the 1990's, a lot of hardware makers have wised up and include legal boilerplate in their hardware end user licenses. Prior to that, it was fair game. You bought a Roland drum machine with the express purpose of using their sounds. Roland never asked for a slice of Michael Jackson's wealth just because he used their sounds. That's what they were made for.

Errr, thanks for the info but what does it have to do with the current discussion? :?

You lost me!

I think if ya don't know - then the best thing is to ask the creator of the hardware you want to sample - first - hope that helps ;)

Peter
