OK,

So I thought it would be fun to make a ST 2.1 patch using samples of my wife singing. Wanted to create a sort of ethereal soft pad using long sustained notes. But before I recorded her, I wanted to practice setting it up in ST 2.1. I decided to use ST instead of HALion 2, because I thought Stretch might give us some added realism or something--who knows, we'll see. HALion doesn't have any kind of formant preservation yet, even in version 3, from what I understand.

Anyhow, I figured out how to import the test wave (me singing one sustained note) and how to assign it's root value. But I don't see any way to set loop points so the patch will play continuously as I hold the keys. It just plays the file through and then stops. Is this a ST limitation? Any suggested workarounds? Making a vocal pad is much less appealing if I can't hold sustained chords indefinitely--even if it's sort of retro in a Tron kind of way....

Sorry for the n00bishness!

I had the same problem when I first created samples in Sampletank, and had to ask on these very forums ;) . ST itself doesnt have loop editing facilities so what you need to do is create and move the loop point in your wave editor... Some dont seem to work, I think sound forge does it ok and wave lab.

Hope this Helps :)

K, I feel dumb. WaveLab can create loop points that are recognized by ST? That's pretty cool! I guess I'll have to investigate that.

Does anyone know of any freebie or low cost programs that will set loop points? Wavelab is a fairly pricey program...

Thanks

Tee hee,,, It can also give a person a lot of respect for how much work goes into this sort of thing. :wink:

@BERFAB

You might also want to have a look at Seamless Looper, especially if you're looking into working with multisamples...

I was trying to resolve this issue as well.

Can Adobe Audition or FL Studio create these loops?
