ok... so i have been reading here for a while, but i am really new to being active in any forum. that being said i have decided that i don't want to use any pirated anything... i am used to using cubase sx2 but i can't anymore, or i won't rather... not until i purchase it anyway. i have seen krystal but when i go to get it it is as if the link to download it is broken or something. it so far looks like something that i could use easily enough. i know that there are a great number of other hosts that i could use, but my finanial situation is not what i would like it to be however. any help or support could go a real long way. thanks.

for one congrats on straying from the path of the W-word. Freeware hosts seem a bit lacking to me without having to deal with tedious workarounds.
For the average home musician, Cubase SX seems like overkill. If you spend money on any one aspect of your virtual studio, it should probably be the host/sequencer. I'd say go for Cubase SE, it's basically a cut-down version of SX. It's $100US (pretty cheap actually for what it is) and when you feel you absolutely have to upgrade, you can do so as well. What limitations it does have can be worked around somewhat as well... 48 audio tracks, unlimited midi, 5 inserts per track, 16 VSTi slots...
Everyone around here seems to rave about "eXT," (also pretty inexpensive) though I've never tried it personally. I hear it's pretty powerful though ifyou take the time to figure out whatyou're doing. (and that is one beauty of paying for software vs. pirating... if you spend money on something, you're probably going to have more incentive to learn how to use it properly and get your money's worth).

Congrats for your decision. I'd propose checking the Market place forum here for a 2nd hand Tracktion 2 licence. Very easy to start using it and lots of people adore it (including me of course). Transfer of licence should be no problem and prices are around 80$ or less.
If I go insane, please don't put your wires in my brain

Go to the download page and try different servers. Not allo of them may still have it. I got it downloading from the Poland server.

energyXT and/or Tracktion seconded. As usual, best advice is to try the demos and see for yourself. I'm willing to bet that you won't miss Cubase or any other bloated sequencer once you do
The mind boggles.

For a very straight-forward, easy-to-use-and-learn sequencer, you might want to check out Reaper at http://www.cockos.com/reaper/
It's still under development, and is now free. It's a tiny, fast download. It's improving literally almost daily, very fast changes. Will only cost $20 when it's released.
But for extended features and all around kick-you-in-the-ass power -- EnergyXT. I'm still struggling with learning how to use it, and have seen quite a few posts about its initial learning curve, so I don't feel too stupid yet. The consensus on the forum is that once you 'get it' properly, it will seem intuitive to use. I'm just not there yet.
Take care,
GreyLion
