ohm, have you thought of just making the ultimate easy to use modular midi environment that be stand alone or load as a vst?
I bet alot of people who don't want (or can't) learn max/pd/plogue, etc... would pay decent money for that.
Things like combining, limiting, splitting, curves, etc...
Not to mention things like this touchpad and the tablet app...

Sweet!ohm wrote: Synaptics touchpads provide a little bit of pressure info as well, edit: resolution is pretty good actually. There are other weird touchpad specific events like "double finger tap" "triple or more finger tap" that could probably be mapped out as well. And there are three buttons there as well.
Are there any USB touchpads that can do this?

Already mentionned, the iGesture Pad is a big multitouch pad that responds to several fingers at once, and even gestures with two hands like resizing a window while moving it, but nobody has made yet an adaptation for MIDIAre there any USB touchpads that can do this?

Yes, +1.i'd like to have customizable CC numbers 'cause i'd use it in Bidule (where fixed CC can turn layouts very complex)...
Works fine with my Sony Vaio. I would love to try multiple buttons and the X/Y. That would be cool.
One request is to have an option to lock certain faders. I have all four CCs assigned and it is really cool moving the pad around swiftly and having some crazy sounds. But at certain times, i may want only one fader/CC going so it would be cool to have a lock option since you have to be precise so as to avoid the faders you don't want to use.
Very cool Ohm!

Is it possible to mix and match touchpad events so as an example, with my request to lock certain faders, one can do it by tapping 3 fingers simultaneously on the touchpad? There are other weird touchpad specific events like "double finger tap" "triple or more finger tap" that could probably be mapped out as well. And there are three buttons there as well.
There could be a settings page where one can select which fadrers, or notes etc. would be affected by the "lock" feature.
Sounds cool on paper but not sure if it is easy to implement.
Edit: Nevermind...i just saw the second post.

I am still toying with this thing and i have another FR. I was thinking of having a "snapshot" feature where you can save specific fader settings. The idea is for instant recall of different saved settings while jamming.

Yes, and probably bought by Apple...Well that company is dead...
But there is yet an important stock, and it is easy to buy them on eBay, but alas not cheap

thanks for all the comments.
acousmod: I'm not going to write an application that only works with a device that is no longer manufactured, sorry
I know they are available, but I'd need technical assistance from the company for the project to be at all possible.
Kodama: an easy to use midi environment sounds cool, but I'm not sure it should be modular. Anyways - I'll remember the idea, right now I have plenty of projects.
Former Pharaoh: I like the idea of locking faders - how about using keyboard shortcuts? The numbers 1-4 for instance to toggle the locked state of the four controls?
Snapshot idea is nice as well, Recently the project moved on to be a VST plugin so I need to decide if the vst programs should store CC-maps or work as value snapshots. I'm thinking they should store CC maps and the snapshots should be an internal feature.
Btw. the final version will have max. four controllers each working in at least three modes: no buttons pressed, button 1 pressed etc. mapped to different CC's I'm thinking about including keyboard keys to toggle controller sets as well , this could provide a pretty large number of possible CC's using one touchpad.
The caps lock key toggles exclusive access to the tablet (enables disables the mouse cursor)
I haven't decided on pressure support yet because it's not really pressure I'm receiveing from the touchpad but an indication of how big a part of the touchpad is covered by finger (s) so it's impossible to change the "pressure" without changing the position simultaniously - that is a bit annoying.

I don't know if the USB touchpads work with touchpad 2 midi. It is written for the Synaptics drivers, and usb touchpads might very well use different drivers - I've already contacted Cirque (manufacturer of USB touchpads sold under the brands Cirque and Adesso) asking about driver details.
I'd wait a while before buying a usb touchpad until we know more. You are more than welcome to contact the mentioned companies and ask these questions - the more interest we show in the matter the more likely they are to respond.

the keyword is "Synaptics" - until I learn more about the Cirque touchpads I have to assume that they use different drivers.
If the manufacturer confirms that their product use Synaptics drivers it would be safe enough to assume that the touchpad can be used with Touchpad 2 Midi.
Perhaps someone in this thread owns a usb touchpad to do a quick test?
