Stop it!
Bringing back all the memories of the 70's here.
I always liked Brand X, may have to go out and get a couple of cd's as I only had vinyl years ago. Do have Isotope on cd though.
Now here's a band from the past:
Anyone heard of Mogul Thrash?
I saw them live in Salisbury (UK) some time perhaps late 72 or early 73 time. Had their first lp too.
John Wetton and others and deserved more attention. Did 2 lp's if I recall. Good jazz/rock if I remember correctly.
Might have to check out Amazon to see if they are still available.

There is a Steve Hackett record where he does a tribute to Genesis tunes and Wetton sings Watcher of the Skies on it. An interesting version! Not bad.

Dave - that album 'Genesis Revisted' was a patchy old affair.. In the liner notes he claims that Tony's solo in 'Firth of Forth' was a masterpiece, yet the entire instrumental section is ruined! I mean the Bruford/Levin Jam that replaces the larger part of it is great - but not in that context.. oh well! There was a CD/Video Tokyo Tapes with Hackett/Wetton/Thompson/McDonald/Colbeck. It was very good - especially an acoustic version of 'Heat of the Moment' with Steve, John and Ian all on acoustix.

Mogul Thrash? Yip I recall them, but heard very little of them.

Any Family fans here as well, while we're about it. Chappo's voice is one that can never be forgotten!

I'm a big Family fan too, but prefer Chapman/Whitney Stretwalkers. Saw them in Chappo's home town (Leicester) around 76/77 and one of the best hard rock concerts ever.
About a year earlier I taped a live concert of the S/walkers from Radio Trent in Nottingham and had it on cassette until I wore it out. Have managed to obtain another copy although quality isn't great.
As for other hard rock outfits I saw live, little compares to Atomic Rooster or The Groundhogs.

Just noticed this thread! I've been a huge Genesis fan for almost 30 years. Nice stuff Squids...thanks for sharing it.

I have a question about that collection containing the D'Virgillio loops (I'm also a big Spock's/Transatlantic/Neal Morse fan)...how much of the material is actually Nick? Is this a collection of various drummers/styles?

Woops. Missed this last post. The Special Edition? It has about 5-6 Nick loops on it. But, Nick will have his own title featuring hundreds of loops including grooves he's played with Spock and Kevin and some Genesis rhythms as well.

Speaking of Genesis, I have to share this one with fellow Genesis fans. This is too cool. There's a ton of IK software and SR sounds being used over at the FARM! No, not all of it was actually given to them by me.

But, some of it was. I gave Tony Banks Miroslav Philharmonik because he was asking about it and I said to tell Tony that it'd be like me giving something back. If there's three people I would like to give a plug-in of ours to it would be Tony Banks, Lyle Mays and Gabriel Yared. Two out of three so far is not bad! But, they picked up TRackS and CSR. Here is perhaps the most fun news. I might be able to go to the Farm and show them some of the new stuff like AmpliTube 2, Ampeg and Studiophonik. They're really getting into it over there. Maybe I will finally get to meet Mike and Tony myself like NDV did (well, not exactly like he did of course... lucky bastard). I've always wanted to for some reason. I forget exactly why that was important to me but it is still a fun connection with my childhood. I guess that must be it. I am not really a true fan of much so if I had to look back over the years then Genesis would be the closest thing.

To think that when I was a young kid all I wanted to do was sound like Genesis and then now Genesis is using my sounds? Wait until they hear NDV's title with all of those classic 7/8 Genesis grooves on it... boy will THAT be weird!!!! I wonder how weird it is for Tony (who also has Sonik Synth 2) when he stumbles on a patch like "Banks pad". Does he smile or run for cover?

In the Cage lead? How often does that come up as a patch name in synths?

Just thought I'd share this with fellow Genesis fans. It is kind of a thrill for me. Please forgive.

Just kidding. Although I am sending Nick Davis one to play with on his ProTools rig. I think there's the Back In NYC groove on there. What I would give to see the look on their face when they heard it!

Must feel great!
I have always been surprised by the fact that Tony/Genesis almost never were included in presets on like for instance soundbanks and such. Because in terms of sounds/atmospheres, Tony is my hero!

Thanks Pauloos. Ironically, if you did see a Genesis or TB related name it could have even been a patch made by me or people I've worked with at SR over the years. A lot of us did patch programming and sampling for the major keyboard manufacturers back in the day. I still do for Yamaha here and there.

But, you find more Genesis/TB related patches in SR products than anything. Also, with Nick D'Virgilio's title (and even Jerry Marotta's) we had them do a lot of cool Genesis grooves. I don't know if we'll release them all but we had Jerry play Back in NYC and Nick played about 40 Genesis tune grooves including all of Supper's Ready and the Lamb. Good outtakes for me to play with at least. Some of it (maybe a lot of it) will be released in the series. Either way, it will be scary and funny when/if any of the Genesis crew here it. Not nearly as bad as my Shankar story with the Phil Collins samples though. That was worse. This is more of an homage and an archive of some of the best grooves ever. Phil was/is a brilliant drummer. We're not likely to do a Studio ProFile with him (but wouldn't that be amazing!), however we consider ourselves very lucky to have been able to do one with Nick and Jerry (plus a title with Bruford) so that is as close as it gets. Well, I did talk to Chester Thompson and Ricky Lawson as well about possibly doing a title too. Oh if we could also just have Collins...

I digress. However, we may do a bass one with Tony Levin and also Leland Sklar. There's definitely more fun in these sample sessions than the usual boring note capturing that's for sure.

Anyway, yes, I am really happy that I was able to give something back to those guys, especially Tony Banks who really influenced my decision to become a keyboard player. Something about seeing him surrounded by that wall of keyboards I found appealing!

To be honest, I'd still prefer to see THAT than him playing new midi boards and a laptop. But, at least he's playing my samples of those old keyboards now.

Better than just stock keyboard sounds. Also he's been working on classical stuff so I think he's really loving Miroslav Philharmonik. That's awesome. I guess it's not THAT big a deal but for me it is.

Yeah! a PC soundlibrary would be awesome! what I wouldn't give for that!
I also always hoped for a Collins instructional video at some point.....oh well....

If ever Leland and you decide to team up for a soundlibrary, that would be a great experience for you both (he's a great guy! not very computer-minded though ;-)Did you by any chance meet him at NAMM 2006? Because I know he was there...

btw. what did you mean by your Shankar story?
