How does Richard Devine, Shapeshifter, and the rest make those ordered offbeats? Anyone know?
What is used? a sequencer? which one? wave editor? ...?

And how is the sound of a marble dropping and increasing in speed accurately replicated? What tool is there to implement this with ease and speed?

i don't know about the first question, but for the second one, maybe you want bram's bouncing ball delay? just feed it the sound of a marble hitting once.

im not sure exactly what you mean, if you could point out one or two tracks with these 'ordered offbeats' that would help a lot.Adambomb337 wrote:How does Richard Devine, Shapeshifter, and the rest make those ordered offbeats? Anyone know?

I have no extensive knowledge of the genre and the artists involved and will not be able to tell you specifics but i have been researching into it lately which i beileve has been pigeonholed " glitch/IDM "..If i get you right..your after the erratic sounding beats , tht pitch up , reverse, slowdown and stutter..I got turned on after hearing a Aphex twin tune that damn near gave me nightmares ( if anyone knows the song with the Dog/ Ectoplasm man and nightvision music video - i'll be gratefull so tht i can try and get tht song again)From wht i;ve gathered those big boys use reaktor ensembles and the like..I have been able to get a good approximation with the following plugs altho i do not use it as much as those dance tracks but subtely complementing traditional guitar bass drums songs. - I havent tried them all and still experimenting myself, get back to me on any good un's !
1. Klanglabs - Glitch, Granola,backman,microgater
2.NCD PLugs - Buffer synth alpha, Tempo sync reverser
3.darrel barrel - DTBLKFX
4.Glanfield - Sample stutterer
5.Smart elextronics team -
Bram - supratrigga
destroyfx - buffer override, scrubby , skidder.
Ioplong - slifty
Koen - KT Granulator
MDSP - Livecut
6.Betabugs - Getablitch JR
7.Darkware - Various plugs do a google search.
8. DBblue Glitch <- try the demo, could be all your need..prolly considered cheating tho by diehards
9.Live slice
10.fxspansion - snippet2, stutter
Hope it helps you.

That's all I wanted to do as a kid. Play a guitar properly and jump around. But too many people got in the way. - Syd Barrett

theres a thread here which talks about those heavily edited afx beats with a couple of examples :

still, it depends on what you want to achieve.
