I just tried using the Miles trumpet. Very realistic in that I get the odd muffed note, but it still sounds real. I'm just a real bad trumpet player.

I was wondering how we assigned aftertouch in that one? I wanted to put vibrato on it. I'm using mile's tone b6.
What would be cool is if you could play with the mute on the mod wheel. Have it cross from muted to non muted as you raise the modwheel. I've heard trumpeters do that. It sounds like your concentrating on the sax right now, but its an idea you might want to exploit.
I'm sure that these physical models aren't as simple to program as a regular VSTi synth but I thought it might inspire an idea.

Note sure I understand the question.
In the lower right corner you can assign expression and vibrato to any midi CC, including aftertouch.

Make sure you move the MIN EXP slider out of the max left position otherwise all notes will be muted.

Last week I went to buy a real sax, a cheap 300 euros alto sax, comes with gig bag, chiver, mouthpiece, cleaning tools, reeds and all the necessary to start learning. I'm having a lot of fun with it, awesome istrument!

Don't worry, I haven't forgot you. I'm working hard on the sax simulation, and having a real sax with me is indeed a good help.

Btw what do you think about the mp3? Not bad for a newbie, isn't it?

you mixed the sax so it sounds like a muted trumpet some times.

The sax looks beautiful!! is really well preserved... Yamaha?

I have one Alto too, the chrome(?) is all screwed (some says that makes it sound better)...I droped it the other day so it has to go to the doctor...that's why I'm more than interested in Miles'tone.

No, no no no, nobody gets a yamaha anything for $300, im thinking its a conn, king, bundy, besson. all good sax's, my first was a conn 10m naked lady model tenor that supposedly was played by someone in glen millers band at some time. Then i got a nicer model of the same and played that for like 5 years and sold it and got a yanagasawa, i tried a yamaha, had every intention of getting it but the palm keys were too high for me. yamagasawa was just right.

there werent any selmers around in local shops to try and i had a nagging feeling i didnt deserve a selmer. i think the yanagasawa's are selmer knockoffs anyways, more or less. certainly better than i am able to play still.

getting a sax was one of the best moves ive ever made, they are just fun. trumpet i find inherently stressful and unforgiving. like on sax during your first year of playing if someone comes around and makes fun of you and your tone you can just put on something like spandau ballet "i know this much is true" and all of a sudden you're soundin like parker in comparison.

but that brings us to the nasty point of sax, its so easy to get up and going that the good players push the bar really high, really really high.

we got a guy in town here, kenny holman, sheeesh i wont even get into it.

but gettin back to the nice stuff theres lots of gigs for sax players of all levels.

hey and once you know the boehme fingering you can pretty easily port to the other reeds and flute, tho alto is in Eb and tenor sax is in Bb and so is trumpet. almost everything else is in c.

wx5 has an alto sax fingering setting too, its also got built in nice alternative fingerings that wouldnt work on a real sax.

Very often if you enter into the middle of a recording of sax it can also sound very much like a violin, flugelhorn can sound like flute, theres a lot of timbral overlap in these things and its the attacks and nuances that set them apart.

and be reminded sax was invented to be a trumpet-like reed instrument.

The sax I bought is a yamaha, supposedly played by a guy in a merengue latin band...You are right, is so much fun...until you realize you need to learn those fast phrasing moves, have no patience for that and there are so many good sax players that I think they deserve to be recorded more than me.

But is good to know at least a little about every instrument, if I had the money I'd but them all, even some timpanis.

tensioned surfaces are a pig to model. The harmonix are all over the place.. Having said that Guido, xoxos, or Luigi (NuSofting) would probably be the best people to have a go [rurik already has, actually, as I recall].

And Guido - that's pretty nice playing for a beginner
