Funny, that Logic 7.1.1 runs 16 VIs at 50%cpu, and the Tracktion 2 screen won't even scroll sideways with that track count... Are you running Tracktion on a Mac, or a PC... or just trolling!monkeysan wrote:Uh, if Tracktion runs slow on your Dual G5 you gots a problem, and it ain't Tracktion.DHR53 wrote:Uh, Tracktion was slow on my Dual 2.0 G5...He said a G3.
I highly recommend Tracktion. Intuem is meh, imo. Too fiddly.
Inexpensive host that runs well on a G3/500Mhz?

i could run two tracks mono ( or one stereo ) and work with audio on destructive mode on a Mac LC 475 (Logic Audio 3,5+ external MIDI Configuration + some audio editors )...the only big cons was the in/out converter ( 8 bits) though i could edit audio in 16 bits internallyDHR53 wrote:Your not going to do too much audio recording with a G3 laptop anyway... In which case were talking efficient music apps, of which, for a G3 there is only one... Reason 2.5 Tracktion 2 is OSX anyway... You could barely run OSX on a G3, if at all...kodama wrote:Reason is not a host and won't record audio (and might be dead?).DHR53 wrote:Reason 2.5 would run fine!
Reason will still run on OS9...
This during a time ( almost two years ) a lived in Bobo-dioulasso in Burkina Faso (some example on my site BTW )
By experience it has become a useful situation because i took a real time to investigate and discover many of the possibilities of audio editing related to composition.
I wouldn't have found the time and the need usually
Therefore i would recommand to work with a limited configuration, even as an exercise of style !

I may be insane, but I don't think it's because Logic 7.1 runs like a champ on my G3 600 iBook in Panther.DHR53 wrote:O.K. maybe I... couldn't run OSX on a G3 (without going insane)

I used Tracktion on a g3 500 ibook for a long time and did a lot of tracks, and also did full remixes with 20ish? tracks full of vi's and plugs on a g3 900 ibook. I'd say Tracktion is your best bet for the job.

hmm.. I have a Tracktion2 license, I just figured the G3 would be too slow! It's running OSX, by the way..
Maybe I'll download the Mac version and try it, worst thing that could happen is I curse it and delete it.
Eventually I'm going to send it in for a G4 upgrade, but that's months away. Next upgrade: more memory!

Interesting stories... I used to run Jaguar on my old G4 1.25 and it ran fine. Reason 2.5 worked very well, but both Logic Platinum, and Cubase SX on that machine just didn't cut it... at least to my expectations, anyway! That's why I bought a G5 and upgraded everything... I purchased T2 when it first came out, gave it a pretty good testing I think... It was fine with audio clips, but when loading in a lot of VI's with midi clips, it slowed down considerably... certainly not in the same class as Logic Pro on a Dual G5. Now, how your getting 20 tracks of midi (not audio) on a G3 with T2... I'd say, Big Hmmmm... But hey, give it a try... I'd love to hear how it does!

I downloaded the Mac version, I'm going to install and test it tonight! I mainly want to use the Mac to mix bounced-down audio on, demo tunes with, play with mixes with folks outside my tiny home studio so I'm not going to be running any VSTi, just effects plugins (those I have Mac versions of, anyway).
I'll report my experiences!
