Automation in Your Host

For sake of saving me hours of back-breaking work, I was wondering if any hosts require MIDI cc #'s in order to allow automation of parameters. In ORION all the parameters just appear in a list so I only need MIDI cc's for working with my controller. Because I have started using a lot of sub-controllers for things like waveform selection and other list type things, it is way more work to assign CC's to those things so if I can get away with just assigning them to sliders it would be cool.

If you have your subcontrols set up correctly it's simple to set up cc numbers. Using the "Name" pin on your patch mems is the key. If you name your controllers as you go, you can set up all the cc numbers on one page. Just go to the main container in Synthedit, right click and select automation. You will see all of your controls listed and you simply click on the bit where it says <none> in the control column and set the cc numbers. So long as you name everything as you go along it's easy, if you don't you'll just see lots of "patch_mems" listed and have no idea which is which. I have all my subcontrols in containers and have the name pins connected externally, this way I can set up or alter all my control names from a text file without even opening containers.

I was just trying to get him to support Mac.. I know he's a big fan but sadly, he can't afford one. A collection might be in order hereLunch Money wrote:Tracktion doesn't require CCs; it uses VST automation parameters. Does that answer the question? I got thrown by spaceman's comment.
I've already given my 2 cents

That's a very big "if". I lock all their containers to save space so I need to unlock, go in, give it a name, then lock again for every sub-control. And a lot of them are inside other containers so its no trivial task. That's why I'm trying to get out of it if I can.ezeeboogie wrote:If you have your subcontrols set up correctly it's simple to set up cc numbers. Using the "Name" pin on your patch mems is the key. ugo, ignore spacefool, he is upset with me because I said nasty things about Reason and seems to think that making a dick of himself all over the place is a good way of extracting revenge. Of course, if he even knew what a MIDI cc # was he would probably be able to answer the question so I suppose he is hiding his ignorance behind his rapier wit.

OK, here's the slightly harder but still not too hard way!
1. Right click on the main synth container and open the automation page.
2. Right click on the container again but this time open the Panel view.
3. Now move the two pages so you can see them side by side.
4. Next, move a controller on the synth's GUI you will see the value update on the automation page. You can then rename it directly via this page and also set the cc number at the same time.
I think you'll find that'll save you a whole heap of time!
