Replying soon. ;)

Can you post the final voyager shots up here? I can't wait till the GUI gets worked in.....I see alot of potential in it...and I'd love to start a pro-sounds freeset for it, but I can't work with that GUI. lol. Synth sounds great, the GUI looks like binary or something. :hihi:

peace
Yea, the GUI looks like a newspaper and it takes up 85% of the screen.
Here is my small version:

Edit: Not because of any project in particular. I just stretched myself way to thin.
Dude in detroit being me I assume; don't give up man. What happened? Remember when you do stuff for free you dont have any commitment to timing.. Atleast, that's part of the rule for me.

Show us bro. :)

Yeah! You. hahahah. I couldnt remember your name, but was so impressed with your designs. I didn't mean any offense of course, just that I don't feel like I can provide sufficient attention to details while doing the free stuff, and trying to balance my day job (which is essentially doing the same thing).

I'll have to see if I have them up on my server, and I'll post up some links.

Ok. Here they are:

Since I had actually started with trackers like modtracker, then buzz, I never minded the original gui, it was just a bit too big.

And I just couldn't help but make a dream skin idea for it. I have so many GUI ideas for imaginary synths on my computer that will never see code, its rediculous. hahaha.

That's a beaut!

Make me some knobs for Reaktor, bitch!

There was a black one with green LEDs I thought was extremely sharp and novel, wasn't there? This one is really sharp too, and neat, but the grey metallic look is more common. When is it, if ever  , supposed to be released?

Post

I dont know anything about the release date. I know Arguru (and Zaf, et. al) are pretty busy these days, so don't know much more.

@Sickle, I have a stock pile of knob bits, but don't know how reaktor likes its widgets (like # of frames, file type, orientation for animation) If you can fill in the missing parts of my intel, I will glady design you whatever your heart desires, knobs, full interfaces. You can be an exception to my new rule.

Post

Oh, and I abandoned the black and green one pretty quickly. I wanted to make this one look as pro and mainstream as possible, since it is really a great bread and butter synth. so i decided to go with a more classic feel.

No offense taken brother, I am horrible with names too -- I blame all the drugs I've hammered my brain with in my despondent youth. Anyway, thanks for being impressed but any monkey can do it. ;)

Yes I feel your pain. I have been working on a Wusik skin for the past few weeks and it is indeed hard to juggle all of the extra freebie stuff with hobbies and life and so on, but.. It's free, so there is no commitment to timing. It will be done when it's done.

I recently finished helping out SkNote with a grainz skin and a smaller one for dover and his bass drum VSTi. Both were indeed a lot of work but in the end it was also a lot of fun.

I think that if we (meaning you, me, and anyone else who does this stuff in their spare time for free or trade) keep things in perspective and don't make it so much of a "job" it will be a reciprocal positive experience.

So, please, don't give up. We all need you. The coders should not have to worry about the interfaces (aside from perhaps a blueprint given to one of us types) -- it's distracting and they usually wind up doing fair jobs, to their credit. It's a great thing to release free plug-ins but if we all can focus on what we do best, production will be more frequent and quality of the product will be higher.

I know all too well how you are feeling xerocreep. You feel as if you are letting people down if you take too long (you aren't - assuming you work for free). You feel as if perhaps it's more work than is worth the end result (it is but the worth is definitely high for a well designed instrument/effect).

I think that you are burned out right now and shouldn't be so quick to announce your retirement in this stuff. Look at what happened with Stephen King :)

"I quit writing"... "oh wait, here is another book" ... "I really like to write, so maybe I don't quit after all" ... "no promises". :)

The last part is the best way to work. Don't make obligations unless you feel you can honor them. Instead of announcing that you are done for good, why not take a small hiatus instead? Come back re-energized and with a fresh perspective on what you are doing this for and it will surely help :)

But please, don't give up man. The VST devs need every designer they can get. It should never be up to one or two, but a collective, to fulfill this need and remove this burden from the development of future projects.

Also, his plug can take PNG with alphas I hope? Going to be a bear to export all those diff pots with varying backgrounds if not to accomomdate for the gradiation and textures underneath. That's one of my biggest problems with Wusik skinning -- only BMPs with solid transparency (yes that means no complex alphas (beyond 1 bit) and is a huge problem for me now).

Dude I cant wait to use this thing. It looks freaking spectacular -- pro-level all the way, and I like the simplicity as well as the attention to detail shown all over. It's going to make the plugin 1000x more usable.

No pressure from me, but when this is done I am going to actually use the synth. I have a copy right now but it's exiled into the "c:\vst\[evaluate_later]\arguru" directory -- not to take away from the topic at hand but I feel I should explain why the exile; the usability is low even if the sound is great. The gigantic interface it is currently plagued by is partly the reason. The other reason is because there is 0 contrast between 'modules' or 'components' of the synth, it makes it very difficult for a newbie synth programmer (myself) to actually understand/use it.

Your design solves all of that :) and (no pressure) when it's finally released with this pretty new UI it's going to be one of those instant legends I think.

Excellent work!
