I'm trying to impose the character of certain sounds over a completely separate lead sound via an expression pedal or somesuch controller.

It's sort of like a convolution timeline but the position of the sample that is to effect the lead sound would be set by the controller, thus giving me the range of the whole duration of the sound to be used as a convolution sample over it's entire length.

Code: Select all

[b]
T.| .
I.| .
M.| .
E.| . where dots represent a possible contol value
A.| .
X.| .
I.|..

Hmm maybe I'll just have to make a sound to post.

Aleksey Voxengo said that he will soon be modifiying the internals of his PristineSpace to allow midi control change messages to be sent to sample length and offset.
But if you're not talking about convolution, fugeddabahtit.

Oh, well, that sounds perfect then =)

Thanks for the news - I've never used Pristine Space I guess I'll just have to be patient.

Would you please describe?
Are there MSP modules (I don't know what they call them) that already do this
or is it more that it is potentially possible?

What little know about it never made me think it'd be suitable for live playing.

Edumacate me ;)

As an aside - someone mentioned convolution on the Plogue forums (it has FFT modules)

I don't think any one has attempted it yet though..

Pluggo has a convolution plugin where you can feed any two signals into the left and right channels and convolve them realtime.
i'm not sure if it would help you get the sound you're after though.
it sounds more like the old transform multiply process from emu samplers than the type of effect you would get using impulse responses.
