Hi all! I'm new around here.
A large orchestral excerpt using 100% Kirk Hunter:

(right click and save as)
size: 962 kb
128kbps mp3

This was intended for the opening montage of an independent feature that never got made. I'm coming directly from pen & paper. This is my first sample mock-up attempt, so don't go too hard on me! I could never afford any suitable libraries until KHSO Emerald. I really appreciate any feedback.

Very nice little piece :) Reminds me of the typical western adventure movies.
Really motivates my desire to buy KHSO Emerald :)

Thanks for listening!

You're the first person to pick up the western connection. The projected film was a negative utopia, near-future western of sorts.

Hey Richter, welcome to KVR. Your cue is very nice, i'm impressed. Is this done in Kontakt2 or Giga? There's a lot of emotion when the large string section first enters, they have a very nice legato line to them that's very realistic. Well done man.

Hi Mr. Tunes, glad you liked it!
Unfortunately, I can't afford K2 or Giga (even KHSO was a stretch) so I had to convert everything to soundfont, then layer them up because I couldn't load everything at once. It really, really sucks.

PS I'll be posting another part of the score (a slower lyrical type of section) once my buddy checks his email and hosts it on his server.

Hi again, just letting you guys know that the full cue is now up at http://kirkhunterstudios.com

How did the conversion work out for you? What did you use for that? I am contemplating getting some orchestral samples and converting to sf2 would really suit my setup.

I would appreciate it if you could elaborate on the subject: conversion, problems etc.

It was a serious pain in the arse, and I wouldn't reccomend it unless you have serious free time and the ability to geek out on the programming. It would be a LOT easier if you were only using a few articulations, but I was going for the full palette (for example violins have sus vib, sus no vib, pizz, trem, harmonics, whole/half trills, slides, runs, and various muted articulations)

Thank you for the reply. That was what I was afraid off. Hoping that Extreme Sample Converter 3 and converting to sfz format will make life easier.

Spacefox...
If you are just going to rip out separate articulations and make one sf2 file for each, it would be pretty easy. This would be fine for limited compositions, but I use all the articulations all the time, so I have to program more sounds into single patches.

Also keep in mind that it's big... I wasn't able to load much as soundfonts before running into memory issues. I had to mix down sections as I went... many people do this anyway, but I like having everything playing live if I can help it. The best bet would be to save up for Giga3 or Kontakt2.

Thanks again.

Giga or Kontakt are not an option really, since I avoid everything that uses C/R or dongles. That's why Kirk Hunter's library appeals to me mor ethan products like GPO.
I don't expect anything more than seperate articulations, and don't know how many of those I will use. I also don't plan on writing big orchestal compositions, only want some quality orchestral type instruments at my disposal and KHSO seems like good value for money.

By the way, how do you play your soundfont? Have you tried disk streaming to avoid memory problems?

I'm using an old SbLive! card. How can you stream soundfonts?

PS, I have a new cue using Kirk Hunter up on my site (in my sig)
