First of all, this post is wildly inapropriate johnnytluxury. You're obviously well educated in the english language, and have a sprinkling of ability to make complex thoughts and process information. The problem comes somewhere in between the processing and the expulsion of the words to your computer. To me, you seem to be nothing more than a bleeding heart college student with far too much time on his hands. Are you on spring break this week or something? Didn't have any friends that wanted to take you out with them?
Despite the said intent of your original post being humerous, the fact that you felt the need to post such a comment to the community suggests that you felt some indiference to the developers religious commitment. Therefore, you needed to slander him. You are too intelligent to make the mistake of really slandering the developer hear though, especially knowing how much appreciation resides on these forums for his synthesizer. So, you disguise your grievence as a punctuated joke. Revealing that, as intelligent as you are, you are not intelligent enough to realize or care about the fact that differences in beliefs and people are what makes this human race what it is. You are a slave to your amygdala. Which I can not blame you for, as it is somewhat natrual for an educated, yet emotionaly challenged individual. However, such actions are rather unnecessary and not at all appreciated here at KVR.
To drive my arguement a bit further, you obviously do not understand the true meaning of the word agnostic. Agnostic is not necessarily the Refusalto except jesus christ as one's savior...but in fact, they believe that we, as human beings, are incapable of comprehending the nature, ways, and very existance of a higher being, however, agnostics do acknowledge the existance of a higher power. They just do not feel they are capable of identifying that higher power's wants, needs, and character. Therefore, they do not formally practice or worship a deity. They feel it is not there place to do so.
In sum, you seem, to me, to be a starbucks-branded liberal with a deep feeling of insecurity, probably due to you feeling unappreciated throughout your life. Your obvious criticism is not constructive, or even productively thought provoking. Therefore, it is, in my opinion, unwwarranted and unnecessary. Please sort out your psychological problems with a licensed therapist. I think you'll find it much more helpful.

M'sieur Trains, I agree with some of what you're saying. But in my experience "agnostic" is commonly used to mean those who profess that we can never know whether or not a supreme being, creator, etc. exists at all, much less the nature of such a thing. Agnostics neither deny nor affirm that existence, just say that it's impossible to know.

It could be that the term's used otherwise in some circles, but I never encountered it used so while attending seminary classes (a perk of working at a certain radio station) nor in discussions of religion, skepticism, and so forth.

My take on the issue is direct and simple. I don't care to violate the wishes of the software's developer, so I don't use it. I don't whine and moan about the restriction either. It's a condition he set and I would feel uncomfortable accepting right to use the software while not honoring the author's terms. *shrug* Not a problem. Not worth mentioning except as a sidelight in a thread like this. And I probably won't mention it again.

>>agnostics do acknowledge the existance of a higher power.

I've not heard that about agnostics before. The dictionary says...

1. One who believes that it is impossible to know whether there is a God.
2. One who is skeptical about the existence of God but does not profess true atheism.

Totc, I totally agree with your post, but I don't understand how someone posting a mean-spirited, anti-religious post is a "bleeding heart"? I thought that was a term used by the right to describe people who "have feelings", and care about the "homeless" and "the environment" and other such nuisances?

Post

I think the original poster makes a valid point. Imagine this disclaimer: "Don't use this synth if you are a christian. Jesus died because he was weak and stupid, and I don't want anyone making music about that dead bearded asshole with this synth".

Can you imagine what a jerk someone would have to be to make such an unfair statement? Can you imagine the outrage on the forums, and the hatemail that would generate?

Will you, Totc, defend a person's ability to make such a restriction on the usage of my synth? Will you call anyone who disagrees a "fucko"? Because if you wouldn't then I'd say you are completely biased and your opinions are of little value.

I've lost a lot of respect for you today, Totc.
Excuse all the blood.

Post

Actually, I recant my earlier statement: I just read the disclaimer on the Zynaddsubfx website, and, well, that's pretty clear:
ZynAddSubFX wrote:Please don't use this program to make music that is against God and Jesus Christ. Realize that the only way to the Salvation is Jesus Christ. Please don't lose this chance and don't make others to lose it!
Enough said! I'm not touching the thing!

So that makes johnnytluxury's original question legitimate, so I apologize for misjudging you, johnnytluxury. I thought you were referring to some KVR insider knowledge. But "agnostic" is the wrong term, IMO. I think you want "atheist" (at least from a Christian perspective).

Post

I must be the only person at KVR who doesn't believe in ZynAddSubFX. I tried it and didn't like it. Granted, my computer at the time was under-powered. However, I can see that it's great for those who like what it does. There may be a religious object lesson in here somewhere, but I'm still on my first cup of coffee.

I recall it didn't work properly on my computer. Probably auto-detects atheists.

Hey, that was tricky - I didn't know you can mute globally...

I still think his question was harmless, given the statement on the site - or am I missing something? It's because he said "Jesus", right?
