Sonic Station & Kontakt 2 Performance

Greetings,
I was wondering if anyone has been receiving poor performance (choppy notes - notes cutoff) with Sonic Station when using within Kontakt 2. Other eSoundz libraries play fine within Kontakt 2 but Sonic Station is the worst offender. Playback is fine with Kontak 1.53.
Any ideas or suggestions would be helpful.

Really? That seems very strange. Although Sonic Station was in Kontakt 1 format so if Kontakt 2 has trouble reading certain Kontakt 1 sounds then it could be that it needs some bug fixes. Any particular sounds? We'll load them up and see if it happens on our end. Any other Sonic Station/Kontakt 2 owners can also feel free to try to see if the same thing occurs.Spyda KB wrote:Greetings,

Ah, one thing it could be is that Kontakt 2 takes up more CPU than Kontakt 1. I guess you could try changing your buffer settings of your audio inteface and see.

The problem I have is with every sound in Sonic Station.Squids wrote:

I played around with the buffer settings and still the same results. I have Kontakt Experience and EW's Vapor, which I believe are heavy sound sets than Sonic Station, and they play fine without the choppiness.Squids wrote:Ah, one thing it could be is that Kontakt 2 takes up more CPU than Kontakt 1. Definitely not the thing I like to hear....Thank you for your inquiry. Sonic Station is one of our earlier products and unfortunately was never tested in Kontakt 2 because that version wasn't out yet. I am very sorry about the compatibility issues related to this but as software versions change, so do their engines and the way they interact with certain patches and programming. The only solace I can provide is that if it works in 1.5, then it's your best bet to continue to use it with that version. I realize that this statement sounds like a coup-out, but future updates for this product (which would make it compatible with version 2.0) would involve a complete over-haul of the library. Thank you so much again for your inquiry and I invite you contact me with any other questions or concerns. Thank you so much.
Best,

I just ran a quick check on my system. Kontakt 2 and Sonic Station plays fine. I randomly grabbed six different patches and all worked. There have been a few complaints about Kontakt 2 and I've had a few gripes about some of the changes in building paches in ver. 2 differs from previous versions. Ram is always a consideration when things don't work out, also, check your disk streaming options, I have mine switched off since I have 2.5 gigs installed on my system. Processor speed is certainly another issue, how fast is your system.

Hi Rainman! Nice to hear from you.
It's true that Sonic Station was made for Kontakt 1 and now that it is discontinued there is no future development on it. It is possible that we may do a Sonic Station 2 perhaps but that's not around the corner at the moment or even confirmed that it will exist.
It is up to the manufacturer of the sampler to stay compatible with content made for its previous versions. However, it should work. We loaded up some of the sounds into Kontakt 2 as well and like Rainman just said they worked fine! So, it sounds like perhaps the sounds got corrupt on your hard drive some how or something. I suggest re-installing it off of the discs. If you need disc replacements that is not a problem. Make sure you have the latest version of Kontakt 2 and try it again. Let us know. Even though what Elijah said is technically correct, it still should work if NI has made Kontakt 2 fully backwards compatible with previous version Kontakt libraries.

Rainman:
I am using a P4 2.6 GHz with 2GB of RAM. I tried streaming from disk or load directly into ram and get the same results. As I mentioned earlier other content plays fine from disk or from RAM.
Squids:
OK...I'll try reinstalling. Still seems weird though because playback in v1.5.3 is fine without any glitches but no so with the latest version of K2.
Thanks.

I just had another thought. I am using a Kawai K4 as a midi controller and I do know it sends Notes Off messages that Kontakt does not filter. It's managable in K1 but in K2 it's horrid unless I load a MFX that filters the message. I thought this might be case with the Sonic Station patches but the performance is still choppy. I'm wondering if I should just try it with another midi controller.

Hey Squids....
Apparently switiching over to another midi contoller did not help, as well as reloading from the CDs. But I think I found the culprit regarding the cut off notes. Under the Modulation page if I bypass the Volume section playback is fine. Left on very chopping performance in K2, even with the latest update. The patch I used to test is Add Lead 2. Others perform about the same.
Any thougts...???
