I just tested the Uad Space Echo, and I must say that I'm not all that impressed. I'm definitely sticking with the Arc Dev one.

It's $249 alone, $399 in the bundle of three, so you save $100 overall. Still, $249 ain't cheap, plus you have to already have the UAD-1 card.

but indeed, csr really gets more attravtive

tested the UAD RE-201, very nice, but not that much better compared to f.e. the arcdev ones

on the uad-1 roland the things to look at, to see why its so superior, are things like the regeneration oscillation effect and the spring reverb. both of these are pretty awful on other plugins that attempt it, most dont.

another thing is the smoothness of the shift when tape speed is changed, parameter smoothing in hardware us a nice uad-1 feature on all of its plugins.

i would love to hear any demo of any other delay plugin that even tries to do these. we should definately do a head to head side by side on all these.

i mean yeah its expensive. if all you need is a muffly echo just copy the track and drag it back and eq it down. if you need a realistic space echo you might want to use uad-1's, its all about needs.

im glad to not have to change tape and clean heads.

I listened to the video demo and wasn't as impressed as I expected to be - I still use Logic's tape delay for that warm regenerative sound.

I would spend my UAD budget elsewhere, personally, maybe the plimiter or pmultiband. The DimD is a nice plug but too expensive for its utility to me...

ok i tried the arcdev thing and you cant be serious. theres no comparison. the tape speed is stepped so you cant do a smooth sweep with regeneration at all. no spring reverb, oh theres lots of things missing. i was gonna do a side by side comparison but we need a plugin thats closer than that.

none of you guys has ever done regeneration oscillation feedback on a space echo?

I started the demo of RE201 on my UADs yesterday and already lost interest.. it's a nice sound, but not my cup of tea, and far outside the price range I'd pay for a delay..

Especially the self-oscillation sounds totally useless to me. Or is there any variety in there?

Post

I gave it a work-out yesterday. After my first 20 minutes I wasn't that impressed and then like most things UAD I appreciated it more the more I used it. The smooth tape speed shifts, self-oscillation effects and spring verb just sound great to my ears.

What sold me was playing a physically modelled Oasys PCI nylon guitar patch through it and putting some percussion around it. It had a something nice about it for sure and not what I have heard in my other plug-ins.

This one is on my purchase list. TO each there own. Scotty

Very nice plug..... but $250 for a delay?
If I had extra money laying around I would buy it ..... but I don't.

i played with the space echo demo yesterday and this morning , this afternoon i bought it and because i already owned the Dimension D my coupon let me buy the Roland CE-1 for $1.

Universal audio have always had reasonable pricing , If TC had made the space echo for the powercore you'd of paid at least $700....think about it
