i read recently that dj shadow uses a high end hi fi needle for sampling, because regular dj needles add unwanted compression - and lose you a bit of frequency, i'm curious if anyone on here does or has done this and if they noted any real difference?

Everybody knows low frequency are key, they work on the bowels. Now consider the fact that sound reaches us through our body orifices, some of which are equiped with amplificating earshells.
What does this mean? If you want to truly enjoy modern music, you need to put a big feather up yours.

well said cptgone, i have nothing to add to that. :tu:

there are two different kinds of shapes on needles. elliptical (E) and spherical (S). most if not all needles prefered by turntablist and people who manipulate records a lot are the S types. less vinyl eating. E type supposed to give you that high end hifi sound quality, but tend to eat up more vinyl due to their shape.

Sperical styli also jump 234 times less and not all elliptical needles can go backwards. They rarely break, too.
