The only problem I'm having so far is I'm getting some outrageous feedback/noise when using VST insert FX while looping a segment of audio. Can any one of you who has this program confirm this? I've tried this on 2 systems (one freshly built with clean install of XP etc.) and the problem persists. Thanks.
I've had terrrible problems with noise even when just playing/recording one track of audio on all versions of the Sonar demo I've tried. Were it not for that I'd be getting this. I don't have that problem in Project 5 - 2 for some reason though so if it's engine is more like that then maybe...

IMO They are luring/fishing more users in Cakewalk bandwagon by giving MC3 at throw-away price. sooner or later you may upgrade to sonar..You see :hihi:
Tools are tools, they don't produce anything...

Exactly. That's how they got me. I don't think I'll be using MC3 a lot but with it I get a good upgrade price to Sonar, which I've always been interested in (actually the same as the more expensive Home Studio, as fandango pointed out).

From looking at the cakewalk website, it also looks like Music Creator 3 comes with a real dynamics package. The MC 2002 version I had only had a compressor hidden deep in the menus that destructively edited the waveform -- in other words, not a plug-in.

OK a few questions have been asked about what exactly is in Music Creator, the information below is gathered from the Music Creator 3 page and USB Music Pack page (ships with Music Creator 3)

This may help hopefully...It cleared a few things up for me as it is probably ideal for my son.

A note on Video tutorials

"When you buy Music Creator 3, you are buying a lot more than just music software. Included is a separate CD of video tutorials that will teach you the basics of creating music with Music Creator. You get a series of videos created by professionals who are ready to teach you all the tricks of the trade. Even if you have no recording experience, you will be able to get up and running quickly"

So if you download it, it's cheaper but you do not get the tutorials which if you are not familiar with Cakewalk products may be a far better option for just £25...still cheaper than the excellent EXT he he. :hihi: (which I have by the way)

My cobbled together spec sheet...

Again some of this info is taken from the USB Music pack page (product not available) which ships with Music Creator 3. It may be a different version of Music Creator 3 But I doubt it.

It's pretty neat that you can immediately download it as well for £19, without the video tutorials.

I have not ordered my copy yet, but when I registered Sonar 5 the response for the reg code was immediate. You might want to email Cakewalk about that. Maybe Original filipper can give let us know how quickly his reg code was delivered. I think three days is not the usual timeframe. Not based on my experience. More like 3 seconds. Really.

In my case it was immediate.

As soon as my CC verified ok, the page with the download link came up and I received two e-mails from Cakewalk (one of them containing the necessary codes) in a few seconds.

Thanks for the help...
I only received one email... i'll contact them...

There was a problem with the email address they were using to send codes from (I've explained it to them and they don't seem to understand): the address won't accept emails sent to it and some spam filters will kill any emails originating from such addresses.

Any idea how many VST instruments this thing will handle? It looks simple enough to use. Too bad there's no demo on Cakewalk's site.

There's no actual VSTi's limit as far as I know - they're just limited by the 32 audio/128 MIDI track limit. You're also limited to 24 fx plugins on each project. It's all bloody cryptic on the Cakewalk site though. The 24 fx limit is only in a blurb, on the 3rd or 4th page!!

24fx should be ok - I loaded in some Sonar projects I did at a friend's and found that I hadn't exceeded that limit in the past, so fingers crossed!! :)

Also if your using a sampler with multiple outputs, 8 or 16 for example, any VSTi limit (if there is one) is even less of an issue.

It looks like Cakewalk now have probably the cheapest host with 24 bit recording, rewire, notation e.t.c and at the other end of the scale Sonar 5 Producer offers an incredible feature set that in some ways exceeds anything currently available from other more expensive hosts, V-Vocal...e.t.c. Impressive.

I just hope they can stay away from any copy protection that requires a dongle :uhuhuh:

I heard from Cake support on this and the looping noise in MC3 is a confirmed bug. I'm guessing they'll have a patch available soon. You might try both ASIO and WDM drivers if you haven't already. I always have better luck with WDM using Cake products.
