Here's pretty much the same song, but with the SpaceEcho on the rapping instead of the guitar.

I'm loving it more and more, still way out of price range for now, but maybe, eventually I will pick it up.... 12 days to go until my demo runs out!!!

agreed - UA would sell more if they used those demos rather than just the dubby one they currently have.pw wrote:sounds very very great!dusted william wrote:Here is a little demo I made with the space echo

Crap, you lot are getting ripped
Mind you, I bought mine quite a few (try 12 or so) years back, these things wern't so fashionable back then.. Also got my DM300 slightly later for $100. We're talking Australian dollars here, so halve that for Euros..
And yes, it does sound extraordinary, if you forget it's "just an echo" and play it like an instrument. Which it damn well is - a crusty, monophonic, cantankerously beautiful beast.
I haven't tried the UA one - and I won't, since I can't afford a dsp card and I'd rather make my own, or use my hardware.
cheers,
sk

It's a nice piece of kit isn't it, the et-200 is exceptional also.Z3R0T0N1N wrote:just ran the arcDev dubBoxx through some tests, and i got all the smooth feedback goodness that i WASN'T expecting, after the criticisms... that feedback sound at the end of Dusted William's rep demo, for instance; it does all that![]()

(keeps fingers crossed for stereo in the next incarnation of dub box).

Hey, anyone willing to post an mp3 of various sharp-transient (ie snare, kick, hats) hits thru the UA Space Echo, and also post the dry hits?
I'd like to a-b them with the real deal. I'll post the results.
If anyone's up for it, maybe pick a snare, kick, sidestick & closed hat and run them thru the Verb by itself, and then a few (simple) echos.
I'll try to match the settings here and see how it compares. All in the interests of science, yeah?
thanks,
sk

It's a nice sounding delay in those demos. But, is it just me, or does it sound way cleaner than you'd expect a tape delay simulation to sound? I would have expected the degradation of the echoes to be more pronounced, any time I've heard the real thing, it came with a lot more fizz.dusted william wrote:Here is a little demo I made with the space echo

I downloaded this one a good while back when I was looking for just a simple delay. Ended up not using it much because it's so much more than a delay . . . but this weekend I finally got back to it and ended up using it on every track of a new song.

There are three tape modes. New, Used, and "Beat the hell up". Plus, there is input gain. This drives the distortion of the stage. The combinations of those give you that kind of decay degredation you are expecting. However, if you use new tape and don't drive the pre, then you now get a cleaner sound than the original had(this is a good thing IMO).shamann wrote: It's a nice sounding delay in those demos. Also, keep in mind that the delay rate and cut-off combinations, as well as how many heads you have engaged, also determine the decay properties. In other words, there a shit load of factors involved. So far, they seem to behave correctly. Or at least in the range of expectation.
If you have to ask, you can't afford the answer

I can try this sometime later today. One thing is that we should do the tests with the "new" and the "beat up" tape settings, as they sampled tapes with various wear on them. (this is on my end).stk wrote:Hey, anyone willing to post an mp3 of various sharp-transient (ie snare, kick, hats) hits thru the UA Space Echo, and also post the dry hits?

There are enough people at teh uaudio forums who are saying its damn close to the real thing that this test isn't really needed, but it should be fun nonetheless
If it sounds good it is good.

As a semi-OT post, the UAD plugs have taught me the important of "less is more" in some cases. What really makes the RE-201, and the chorus stompbox amazing imo is that there are so few buttons, but they just make things sound amazing. 1176, LA2A, and the Pultec plug are the same way.
For example, the spring reverb is the 201 is quite a treat. I could get close using the great "springtank" that came with Reaktor 4, but it took about 2-3 mins of tweaking. with the 201 its just crank up the reverb knob and its go-time.

But as the saying goes, if less is more, just think how much more more will be.WillieJenkins wrote:the UAD plugs have taught me the important of "less is more" in some cases.
I agree with you, it can be a benefit to get good sounds quickly when there are limits on pilot error opportunities. But many other times, the problem is that every one who uses it sounds exactly the same (this is where you get "that classic sound" recognition). Me personally, I never met a classic sound I was happy with, but I can see/hear the merits when applied to others' music.
In the case of the Space echo plugin though, looks like they put enough in there to make it versatile still.
