Hey fellow bottle-eyes

I need to know what program was used for the electronic voices in the, erhm.. "anthem", das Boot. I'm guessing it's a c64 program. Someone knows what it is called and where I can find it? (and on what pc/win emulator to run it on)

could the speak & spell "speak" user input or was there only a couple of set phrases only

it was STSpeech, an atari st program.

here is a good atari st emulator http://steem.atari.st/
and here you get the prog http://cd.textfiles.com/suzybatari2/wordwork/stspeech/
you only need the stspeech.tos, run it on steem and insert text. on enter it starts speaking and you can save the output to a .wav

works fine here

Best speech synth i ever found was SpeechToy 2 for the Amiga. You could control the accent (A,E,I,O,U) on the phonemes along with a few other filters.

Using this you could get some quiet realistic voice results... I once got it to do quite a similar copy of this sample

If someone could port this to a VSTi or PC app at least it'd be great. (It had source code included, although may have relied on features found only in the SID chip.. but surely that can be emulated anyway)

there is a good text-to-speech-synth in WavePad! it's a free wave-editor from NCH Swift Sound. all you have to do is to download the speech-module (Agent??) from winXP. it sounds pretty good not only in english (german,russian, french) ---> http://www.nch.com.au

Amiga doesnt have SID chip (or does it ?)

maybe i was mistaken.

"The Amiga's built-in speech system (narrator.device/translator.library) is quite powerful. Though, using the Say command, you would never know it. SpeechToy adds fourteen more variable parameters to that of Say, giving control of everything from articulation to enthusiasm of the computer speech. It also adds direct phonetics entry and translation."
