Freeze in Cubase - time for a coffe break?

I'm running Cubase SX 2.2 and every now and then my projects hit the CPU roof. So, I try freezing some VSTi:s. But why does this crappy freeze function use 5 minutes for every single instrument?!
(Yes, I have set the project length!)

It's gotten a little better in SX3, but still leaves much to be desired. Soon you learn to work with frequent bounces.
(And if you got Powercore, like me, it doesn't work at all. Nor on group tracks).

how long is the project length?
afaik sx2 bounces from start to end where sx3 only bounces the actual parts.

And we can take this huge universe and put it inside a very tiny head, you fold it.

Right now I've set it to 2 minutes, but freezing still takes several minutes- pm

Really, a freeze time over 1 minute is just too long under any circumstances. I've quit using freeze unless the song is ready for the final mix.
Also, rumours have it that Sonar takes 20 seconds to freeze a track. Is this true?

If it's a short clip it can be that fast in Sonar, but for the most part it takes me about two minutes to freeze a five minute stereo track. It would be nice if it was faster.Andy wrote:Right now I've set it to 2 minutes, but freezing still takes several minutes- pm

Freezing sucks in SX2, as it leaves you with no control over the frozen plug: you can't even add FX! So, bouncing is the way to go.

Always has been as far as I'm concerned. I've never thought freezing was anything amazing or even particularly useful. Supposedly it saves time - I've never found that to be true. And it's just rendering with a macro. For me, I may as well just render without a macro...So, bouncing is the way to go.

In SX 2 I had the same troubles and I didn't use it for that reason. Now I'm using SX 3 and cannot complain about the freeze function at all. Neither on VST-chanels nor on audio chanels. It works great and fast. Might this also be a question of the hardware equipment of the computer?
