I'm waiting for some kick ass plugs that aren't based on modelling. Tired of modelling bollocks already.
Voxengo, you're our only hope. 8)

umm...but RetroDelay rules and has decent spring verb. :hihi:

is there even another realistic spring reverb emulation out there?
Not that I know of. I use RE-201 impulses in Sir.

honestly, buy a real one. For that total price you can .....and in the end it will have a much higher resale value.

I like em so much, I just spent $480 on a 201 on Ebay. It was serviced with the original footswitch 8)

...it definitely isn't "just a delay"

....the UAD does look sweet, though.

As a long time owner, I'd say - unless you want to do gigs without a computer, and as long as the emulation really is as good as the real thing, you're better off with the software.

The 201 is a prick to drag about, a hassle to clean, and the motor is expensive to replace when (not if) it dies. Changing the tape is fun tho. I make my own loops out of an old 1/4" reel.

Sure, it is a beautiful piece of work and some kind of wacked-out semi-synth, but software is way more convenient unless you have roadies. Why the hell do you think I spend so much time trying to make passable emu's when I already have one?? ;)

I agree.

although...I would just have a hard time spending the same amount of money on a software instrument/effect if I could get the hardware unit for the same price.

it's a no brainer for me.

I agree completely; my 201 was the only thing I didn't mess around with taking out to shows; I was too scared it would get banged up or ripped off. In a controlled(studio) enviornment though, it can't be beat..Unless it's by a stereo software equivelant, that is..

:D

I don't think they are as sensitive as you guys are making them out to be. sure, care has to be taken with them, as with any piece of vintage gear, but they are actually quite stable and can withstand gigging.

our trumpet player uses one and we have been gigging with it regularly for two years. no problems whatsoever. I see bands using them all the time.

I think we definitely need a good software emu of the space echo but it's just hard for me to understand why anyone would want to spend the same amount on a software version when you could get the actual hardware unit. I think the arcdev one is great and a much better bargain.

Well, you can't run multiple instances of a hardware unit (allthough, the posted CPU useage results look as if you can't use more than one of them on a single UAD either).
Your settings won't be saved along with the song file either. Total recall being quite an advantage, if you ask me.

I do agree on the arcdev statement though. Pretty much a great bargain (especially assuming that I'm spending for the WWF on a regular base anyways).
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

also, a lot more care has to be taken with a laptop than a 201 :P

I believe you can run two instances of the emulation per UAD card.
