I believe you can run two instances of the emulation per UAD card.
That's pretty much what I said, no?

Kind of a horrible CPU sucker then, btw.

Actually you can run way more than 2 potentially. The CPU numbers are worst case scenario if you are using the Spring Reverb with all three heads with synch on.

I have 2 UAD-1s and I've had 5 running while using other plugs. I'm not saying that it isn't a CPU pig btw. However, it is more a utility anyhow. I can't really see a need to add it as a channel strip item :P
If you have to ask, you can't afford the answer

As a test, I've actually had (6) RE-201's running, at one time, with my (2) UAD-1 cards (total of 83% DSP on both cards). Just randomly selecting from the more than 30 available presets, for each individual instance.

Which is why I was pretty much agreeing with you. Is that a problem?
An idiot on Set Theory:

Damn, sk. That sounds sweet. Love the ease of use, too.

:hihi:
Thanks for that man.

I didn't say many modeled stuff sounds bad or is undesireable. Just saying some outside the box invention would be a welcomed thing.

Not at all.
Maybe my insufficient understanding of the english language is...

Sascha Franck wrote:Well, you can't run multiple instances of a hardware unit (allthough, the posted CPU useage results look as if you can't use more than one of them on a single UAD either).
Your settings won't be saved along with the song file either. Total recall being quite an advantage, if you ask me. .
yeah, I definitely can see advantages of having a software emu.

usually, though, it seems that a software emu is an affordable way of getting the sound of some particular hardware. How many minimonsta's would people buy if they were between $1500-2500? how many Pro-53? If amplitube cost the price of an actual AC-30 or would people still buy it? probably not most people.

I just feel that spending that amount of money on an effect is a bit crazy when you can actually go out and grab the real thing and not even think twice about "if it sounds authentic or not" ....especially if you run a commercial studio.

as far as running multiple instances of it.....well, for live users, I can't imagine that THE AVERAGE person would be running more that one delay on an instrument at one time. If two or three instances is what this UAD is averaging, then it doesn't seem like too big of a difference in the studio.

I agree that recalling a preset is great (I just chose a voyager over a model D for that reason) but I don't think that recalling a setting on a 201 to be much of a pain.

when was this announced?

Post

Snooky it's a beta (well, release candidate anyway). Can't wait to try it out but that won't be for another few days (damn busy weeks) :( .
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.

That's amazing-looking! Wow.

The 201 is a prick to drag about, a hassle to clean, and the motor is expensive to replace when (not if) it dies. Changing the tape is fun tho. I make my own loops out of an old 1/4" reel.

Sure, it is a beautiful piece of work and some kind of wacked-out semi-synth, but software is way more convenient unless you have roadies. Why the hell do you think I spend so much time trying to make passable emu's when I already have one?? ;)

sk
Wait... All this time, and still no roadies? There really is no hope then...

well its simple, if you arent going after such a detailed model you can save a lot of money.

i can relate, i use to build those plastic model kits and occasionally id leave out parts people would never see.

but you always know they arent there.

it takes a lot of dsp because its very faithful to the original. thats either gonna matter to you or not and you can answer that for yourself.
