I had an old version of it (v2) when it didn't work with vst.
Now I'm really interested because I like to work on scores and Cubase is not easy for that (at least for my taste), and still use VST instruments.
I want to have some users review :)

PROS -
1. - Keyswitches (GPO, EWQLSO). Being able to specify "pizzicato", "legato" etc. on a score without having to use messy keyswitches directly in the piano roll. Projects (imo) in traditional sequencers look a bit messy with keyswitches on the music score. I know you can create a new track specifically for keyswitches, but that just seems more convoluted.
2. - You can have up to 8 different "voices" (think VST audio channels) per stave. With a soundfont like SJO Orchestral, you can utilise "Violins Detache", "Violins Pizz", "Violin Arco" and "Violin Tremolo" all on one stave by appointing the different voices to different channels. The notes just appear as different colours.
3. - You can customise hairpins and articulations to apply to different MIDI values depending on the synths or sample libraries you are using. It's easy to convert an entire score to use a different CC if one use CC11 for expression and another uses CC1. Also, slurs are handled nicely by wrapping up legato for you.

CONS -
1. - The VST rack doesn't clear when you close a song and load another one. It replaces the instruments, but not the effects, so sometimes you end up with hidden 'leftover' effects. It's been reported.
2. - Effects are insert only and there is only one effects channel. This channel applies to all VST instruments loaded. So if you want flanger on guitar and reverb on strings, then that's a non starter. Bear in mind that this is the first appearance of VST for Overture, so improvements may be coming up soon.
3. - Piano Roll. It does the job, but it feels very clunky to use. Like the Cakewalk rolls, you can't draw through velocities on selected notes. The grid is also non-customisable and the colour choices tire my eyes for long work in the piano roll.
4. - I have some problems with zooming the score where it sometimes zooms off somewhere totally innapropriate. I need to work out a sequence for repeating it so I can report it.

I think Overture is something of a rising star, and certainly a lot of people have moved from Finale and Sibelius for the VST support and ease-of-use. There are bugs, but these get ironed out really quite fast. Check the patch list on the geniesoft website to see what's been squished so far.

Also, there seems to be a lot of interest by sample library makers in Overture's ability to simplify the functionality of these libraries without filling your piano roll with messy data and extra keyswitches.

I really like it, but a larger mixer would make me happier. At the moment I can't import MIDI files from eXT, which is annoying, as they load fine elsewhere. Hmn.
