THANY YOU!!!! Bitcrusher for that awesome link. I didn't think a plugin like that had been made, and for free, let alone find it right here at KVR. That one works quite well but it's a little dirty sometimes. EDIT: if you mix wet and dry signals you get a much better results, but there is some crackling sometimes even then. I wish the dev would optimise this thing proper, if it's at all possible.
@ark: I am starting to get some nice sounding pads going, finally, and the one thing that I find lacking in pad synthesis is ultra-fine control of PW. Most of the synths I have that play pulse waves come at least with a modifier, often with an LFO. I wanted to go beyond the limitations provided by a simple LFO, and chose EXACTLY what stage my modifications should be, and have them fall and rise as quickly, slowly, or even as randomly as I chose. Also it gives me the option for modification for plugins that don't have an LFO. An added bonus is that now I can try experimenting with PWM on layers of synths together...see what THAT sounds like, eh?!

Also have a look at:
http://www.acc.umu.se/~bedev/software/vst/#PWMDRIVE
Which is a distortion/saturation type of thing.

Thanks for the link shaman. That does something that sounds different, and it's quite subtle. If anyone else has bothered to try the Pulsewidth Modifier from Anarchy... would you care to report on what you think the crackling is? I don't know if it's some kind of clipping or whatever... it's almost as though you can hear the step incements of the modification as you move the slider from side to side. It's not always distinct, and appears to be at it's worst at certain points in the slider.

That's all I wanted to do as a kid. Play a guitar properly and jump around. But too many people got in the way. - Syd Barrett

Surely you could just control the pulsewidth manually / with a CC?Debutante wrote:@ark: I am starting to get some nice sounding pads going, finally, and the one thing that I find lacking in pad synthesis is ultra-fine control of PW.
