Hello,

In a rare moment of thoughtfulness, I came up with some features I'd like to see - I guess they relate mainly to delays but whether they would work as an instrument or effect I don't really know.

1) I'd like a delay that would repeat a wav file loaded into it but that would allow the user to specify the 'amount' of the file that is repeated/used in the delay. Ideally it would allow you to select if the portion of the wav file that is repeated is at the beginning or end of the file. Dunno if that's possible or maybe if it's aleady been done.

2) I'd like a synth or effect that varied the amount of delay applied based either on velocity or pitch, i.e. the higher the note or velocity, the greater (or lower for that matter) the amount of delay. That probably is possible already but I've no idea how...

3) Is it possible to configure a synth so that it pans notes alternately, i.e. first note panned left, second note panned right. Ideally this would work irrespective of note length.

Any ideas? :)

Perhaps the other wav + delay could be accomplished by some convolution-type thinking?

1) Why not just use a sampler?

I havne't got one (or any money) :)

...ahem...

check out the free version of shortcircuit then. 2 voice limitation.

playback modes:
forward
forward loop
forward loop with crossfading
forward loop until release
forward loop bidirectional
forward shot
sliced (maps slices accross the keyboard)
on release
reverse
reverse shot

not a delay, but maybe you'd like to try symptOhm - a granular beast.

Some of ioplong's stuff at Smartelectronix should do this.

I'd like to know as well, as your description sounds promising.

All this is possible in some synths allready. Zebra2 does it for sure, "velocity" and "key" are available as modulators for any target (that includes delay send amounts).
Most likely the more advanced modulation monsters, such as z3ta or Albino allow for this as well.
Probably one could even manage such a thing in Energy XT, but I can't find velocity to be one of the parameters to modulate things so far, and I'm not familiar enough to know whether the MIDI patcher would allow for this.
3) Is it possible to configure a synth so that it pans notes alternately, i.e. first note panned left, second note panned right. Ideally this would work irrespective of note length.
I only know you could halfway do that in Kontakt and Logics EXS. There's the "round robin" mode that would select groups of samples alternatively. And you can of course pan these groups. The downside being that you'd have to duplicate and pan things first. Something such as "odd/even keystroke" or whatever you may call it isn't available as a modulation source.

Interesting ideas.

More ideas (please let me know if such thing exist):

1) a tempo-syncable autopanner capable of very slow autopan times (like 32 bars) with a good selection of waveforms (also non-symmetrical ones), with knobs for desired middle point in stereo field and panning width.

2) a frequency splitter which does nothing else but divides the signal to several frequency bands, all routed to their own outputs for furter mixing/effecting.

Truly mind-boggling music! - New album out! - And a blog!

Probably Energy XT. Has a freely drawable envelope routable to any target CC. The downside: 32 beats maximum, not 32 bars.

I'm sure I've seen something like that a while ago, but unfortunately it escapes me.
