Btw what do you think about the mp3? Not bad for a newbie, isn't it?
Guido,

I've been always amazed with MrTramp and MrRay... And now i'm getting amazed with milestone. You really need to have a incredible "ear" (as we say here in Brazil) and a lot of talent to understand the sound of an instrument.
Creating physical models of instruments is really a hard task... and deserves a lot of "ear" and talent. Now you've showed one more time that you have it more than enough.

BTW: You're doing very good on Sax!

Best for you,

Farakeys.

Where the sax VST that's being referenced in this thread? Can I download that somewhere?

Music with dinner is an insult both to the cook and the violinist.

Nope but meanwhile you can listen to the demo that caught our attention:

When a developer making good stuff suddenly goes quiet it is often a sign that $$$ have been thrown at them by a big player. The announcement is often made some way down the track that the the solo developer is now working on projects for a company we <ahem> all know and love (or love to hate).

he did say at some point that he didn't forget about us. and i trust him, he's given us milestone. i really hope he makes the big bucks too if that's what he wants. :)

I really hope he will stick around as a player in this game - I am truly impressed by his EP emulations and these latest trumpet and sax things make me want to invest in a wind midi controller.

The people that bought us SIR, Crystal, Pentagon, Syncmodular and Blockfish have all moved on to greener pastures with larger companies. I guess this may even have been just what they wanted to do in the first place - establish credentials as a plugin developer and then graduate to a professional outfit with resources and support. I suspect creativity - even genius ;-) - might flourish more easily basements, garages and bedrooms than it does under flouro strip lighting in office blocks.

The sort of interaction we have seen in this thread between users and developer - with people sharing their tunes and their experience working with each iteration - this is exciting stuf. I don't imagine working at NI would be quite like this but perhaps the interaction with the other developers in a group like that would be beneficial in some ways - eg if GUI development is a chore and not your forte that could be handled by someone else while you went to town on the tone generation code.

It is most likely that some of the big guys have thrown some decent cash to him. Still I do want to test this thing.
Best regards from Johan Brodd.

I'm hoping he doesn't go that route. A job is just a job. I hope that he's preparing to go pro on his own. As far as software goes he owns PM. Nobody else seems to be able to touch him. IMHO the next "big" thing will be PM (and possibly Synful's take on creating realistic instruments), and I think Ziokiller has the expertise to be the leader in this. Certainly everyone else is going to have to play catch-up with him.

I definitely DO NOT see Milestone and the sax being released as donationware. There's a HUGE difference between an electric piano and an accurate, playable sax emulation. This is cutting edge, world class stuff.

So yes, perhaps someone has hired him. But perhaps he's just considering his options, talking to the bank, distributors, etc. I'd be perfectly happy to pay for these products as I'd like to see them developed to the max. And anyone capable of doing what he's already done deserves to reap the financial rewards.
And a job isn't going to give that to him.

Some final thoughts.

If Ziokiller is considering going Pro, then releasing these in SE format would seriously curtail his ability to make some serious money off of this. Maybe he's recoding in C++? (One can always hope).

At any rate I'd hate to see him become one of NI's faceless coders, being used to increase their coffers. Sweating under harsh neon lights, chained do his desk, etc.

And I really don't see any possibility that he's dropped off the map just to put the finishing touches on a couple of donationware plugs.

In the meantime, we've got MilesTone! So how about some tunes, guys? (Don't expect anything from me any time soon though, I suck :hihi: )

Post

Maybe Ziokiller just bought himself a real saxophone (like he said he did) and is spending some time learning the instrument and seeing how he can better apply the real instrument's properties to his model. I imagine this could take some time, and then factor in the idea that Ziokiller really does seem to want to do these things right, I think this the most plausible explanation as to why we haven't seen a new beta/plug yet.
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.
