I'm mixing my first album and I purchased the Waves Gold Bundle v5.0 to use with MOTU's Digital Performer. I have a question...
I've examined the waveforms of professionally mixed tracks and there seems to be much more "meat" between beats than my mixes. Some of my favorite tracks' waveforms seem to be boxes that peak at the maximum volume without clipping. Can someone give me a suggestion for achieving this type of volume with Waves Gold Bundle without sacrificing dynamic fidelity (or direct me to a good tutorial)?
I would imagine I could bring up the drum & bass to their maximum levels then compress to bring up the other frequencies. I've tried this technique, but I have no idea what I'm doing and I can't prevent the track from clipping.
My music is mostly electronic so the only truly dynamic instruments are guitar and vocals. I'm looking to create a very big bassy and punchy (hip-hop style) low end with a very clear, warm presence in the remainder. Thank you so so so very much.
