IIR, while you can see I agree that rendering VSTi could be faster (pending Kingston's revolutionary new info) that's not being very fair; you should've mentioned that; that's why it's three pages long. That was pretty dishonest.IIRs wrote:Perhaps I should mention: the object of the excercise was to get the whole arrangement into Pro-Tools because the author doesn't like mixing in Cubase.bduffy wrote:

Quite a big disadvantage in Cubase SX3 !!!!!

I don't trust sound on sound on things anymore. Even less after they praised my demo in their review.
bduffy,
select track, keyshortcut, enter.
The options are pretty much always right so I don't have to think about it. I prefer the flexibility of the export so I never thought to question whether it's "fast enough". It certainly is for me.
Like I said, I do these things "from the spine", never needing to think about it.

Sorry, Kingston, I just want to clarify if I'm missing something easier than what I do now: are you soloing first? What actual command does the keystroke represent?Kingston wrote:I don't trust sound on sound on things anymore. Even less after they praised my demo in their review.![]()

How was that dishonest? What difference does it make why you want all your VSTi tracks rendered in one go?bduffy wrote: IIR, while you can see I agree that rendering VSTi could be faster (pending Kingston's revolutionary new info) that's not being very fair; you should've mentioned that; that's why it's three pages long. *sigh*
yeah probably. I'm not thinking about a few "automatic keyshortcut steps". I'm not much of a teacher. Things depend too much on what exactly is needed to accomplish.
Why don't you play around with it. Teach yourself how to do macros. Work with it much more so these things become automatic. It's like playing a piano with all the keycommands and workspaces.
Oh yeah I should mention I'm using extensive screenset (workspace) type approach and have some high priority commands mapped to my mouse (there's 6 extra freely assignable buttons). I could say I never see the window stacking or menu problems too many people are complaining about, or "clumsiness in gui". In fact, the way I use it generally makes other cubase users go "oh? you can do that?" or "oh! that was fast". Maybe time for a little tutorial by me? I've seen the askvideo tutorials and it talked NOTHING about workflow shortcuts.
My only complaint is (like I said earlier in the thread) that I can't disable some of the unneeded features in gui so I could see more at once and to make it even more intuitive. I'm pretty sure some of that has to do with the fact I used logic for a long long time and some of that paradigm still surfaces occasionally.
But then, I'm a cyborg.

Here's what you said: "there's a 3 page "technique" article covering rendering VST instrument parts using SX.IIRs wrote:How was that dishonest? The same instructions for Tracktion would barely make a paragraph"
Dude, come on: what does that sound like?

bduffy wrote:How do you render VSTi in Traktion? (I'm actually curious)
it's rather bad in Tracktion - you can't simply render just one or several clips inside Tracktion (always only the whole track) - if you want to do this then you have to export and then re-import the sample or you have to copy the whole track and then delet all the unwanted parts...
- rednering in Tracktion is definetely nothing to rave about - eXT on the other hand...

Hey man, I have a reputation at work for being "the shortcut guy", but I do admit I haven't spent enough time with macros. I've been using window sets more in Neundo 3, but never found that it worked in any convenient way in SX 1/2, but I am probably missing something. I'm pretty dang fast in Cubase, but sounds like you've spent more time with this aspect, and you remind me to look further.Kingston wrote:*sigh*

how does tracktion render tracks to allow use in a pro tools project then - just rendering the indivdual files wont save their relative positions so that wont work
the three page sos article is about a script that allows the whole thing to be automated in cubase - just being a script it is not exactly user friendly
but once you know whatyour doing it sequential exports all tracks at a given length -so all relative infroamtion is kept (although all the files are bigger than they maybe need be)

I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

yes, really - rendering is a track-object-function in Tracktion - not a part-object-function...bduffy wrote: Jesus, really?

oh that article - that was pretty coll and showed how easy tzo use and how flexible Cubase's scripting-function is - in the end you basically have a cool freeze-function as you can map shortcuts to scriptings (crtl+f to execute the rendering script) - this article even almost converted me...ericj23 wrote:

b.t.w.: Tracktion and freezing:
Tracktion always freezes to one file - this means if you have two tracks frozen and you want to unfreeze one of them Tracktion renders so just have to wait just as long as for freezing it...
and when a track is frozen you can do nothing with it - you can neither adjust its pan ot gain nor even just mute or solo it
yeah, Tracktion's workflow is really fantastic
