Sascha, first off, you got me laughing out loud in the office, which a real achievement on a Friday afternoon. I like where you switch to beers!

Second: I commend you on your brutal honesty in revealing the shortcomings of your host and making probably most of feel a lot more thankful for what we got. :D

Ok, I'll tell you how to do it in my beloved Logic 5.5.1 PC:
- Solo track.
- Disable all sends (otherwise the reverb blurb and such will get rendered too)
- Set locators so they start very well before any actual sound information passes the track (because unreleased buffers may occur on playback start, especially when using NI stuff).
- Select "bounce and add" (don't you fear, it won't add things to any track in your arrange, gotta do that manually as well).
- Go have a coffee. Or two, in case you're working on something longer. Or 5, in case you're working on some half hour track for a concept album. Consider switching to beers instead of coffee because they might calm you down. This is no offline process! No, realtime rendering for real men!
- Finally, if not too drunken yet, drag track from audio window into arrange. Cut potential buffer blurb from the beginning.
- Repeat all the procedure because all of a sudden you detected that the mentioned buffer release stuff was longer than you actually thought (sometimes hung notes last 10 minutes or forever).
- Proceed doing this for each and every track in case you want to mix things in anything else.

Sometimes you just gotta love Logic/PC...
You forgot that sometimes the render would just stop when it runs out of CPU, even if it had just worked fine a minute a go.

Yes it was fun that was.

Well, at least I have to render less than when running Cubase on the same machine.
Doesn't help too much in some cases either.
With GR2 being such a CPU hog I gotta render all the freaking time. In Cubase I could at least put it on an input channel and record the results straight away.

But that's easy in logic, too! Surely you've used input tracks? I used to do that all the time even back in the day. It's the same with cubase really.

Oh really? Consider it being added.

No, it's not. Input tracks can't be recorded, only bounced.
So you gotta specify an extra output bus (impossible on a stereo only card) and re-import.
Unless I seriously miss out on some feature you may know more about than me.

Well that'll speed things up!

Oh damn, just checked logic. you're right logic doesn't record them. I didn't remember I used to route things using my soundcards internal mixer (so I never thought it problem).

Post

Holy crap!
I *never* tried that before! You're freaking right! For whatever reason I allways thought input objects were cabled parallely, but they're indeed "pre-audio-object".
Now, this is extremely good news!

Makes me look like a Logic idiot, shame on me!

Anyways, thanks a ton, this is immensely useful!

Nonono! You were right! It *does* record input channels!!! You just gotta select the same input as for the audio object!

whoopsie. it works yes.

and whoopsie on you, the biggest logic afocionado in existence.

I seem to remember this was the sole reason for emagic including them in the first place.

Man, really, this is incredibly good news for me right now. I almost gave up on using GR2 in Logic at all, my laptop not being all that much of a powerhorse.
Also, I will finally hear what I played, nothing double latency compensated (by both my playing and the software on playback). f**k re-amping anyways, never needed it much and still don't feel to do so.

I don't remember anymore. I allways thought they were basically there to cable your external stuff to them and have things included in a bounce without recording anything to a track before.
But it certainly makes sense the other way as well, especially with some CPU hogging things that you'd use anyways.

Yeah I pretty much always need the input insert feature for bass or guitar amp sim type effects. I want to "handicap" myself so I commit on the sounds immediately, instead of wanking around with re-amping.

Luckily Vox tonelab has made reamping that much more difficult (and useless), so I don't even consider recording a DI guitar track for re-amping purposes. I do it only if I actually need the DI sound somewhere.

Oh yeah, that too. This thread is slowly becoming a feature re-cap for me. Things to do I haven't remembered to do in eons.

Except Cubase doesn't offer to export each track seperately, and Cubase doesn't have the other render menu which is specifically for rendering tracks back into the project. ;)
SX3 has export selected tracks, is that enough for you? :P
Anyway i'm interested on knowing how does Tracktion handle multi output VSTi.

The automatic batch rendering and aplying channel send presets as batch offline processing are my only request to ST for years.
Nevertheless things the ordinary use may figure as dead easy to a programer could meant a whole lotta trouble.
